d16z6 vs 2.0L sohc

Post by NCNeon » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:18 pm

my buddy just bought a d16z6 with 8:1 compression pistons and hyper rod II rods, the head has a 3angle valve job and hes planning on turboing it. will i need similiar mods to my block and head with a turbo to keep up or more? if its a stupid question let me know, i kinda want to keep it sohc vs sohc so he cant say "well u got a dohc so its better". thanks in advanced

Its not a stupid question, it just lacks details. Pistons and rods are not going to make any power. The size of the turbo and how much boost will be run, will.

A lower compression piston and a forged rod indicates that the engine has been built to make a descent amount of power. It would be a waste to build a bottom end to only run 8psi from a tiny ass turbo, so I would assume he is going to buy a good size turbo or run a lot of boost on a small turbo.

Don't forget that your engine displaces 400cc more than his, so you have an advantage there.

Put it this way. A 50 trim on a y8 using only dsm 450s n safc will run real nice on vtec. Before vtec is a sled. A neon on a 50 trim would probably be pretty fast compared to the honda. Definatly a ton more torque n faster spool.(presumming same junk ebay turbos here) and begi for fueling.
Never no such thing as too many only not enough.

yeah what did he say? listen i have a srt turbo 30lb injectors on a begi2025 at 7psi my Rt was a beast, not to mention the piston rings where on there way out so im predicting alot more then what i thought.
sohc have better low end dohc have better top end, depends on what you wanna do as far as how much boost and turbo your using.
swap the dohc head on a sohc block boost and go have some fun.
all you changed was the head, lowers compression also.

just build a dohc and when he says "you've got a dohc, it's better" say..yeah it is - you should've built a dohc too instead of wasting your money on a sohc pos

You are gonna need at minimum a good bottom end
here:
http://www.modernperformance.com/bottom ... -1607.html
And here is a good turbo kit on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16g-chil ... ccessories.

If you wanna stay SOHC 2.0 your gonna have to PAY to PLAY. SOHC is the hard route. DOHC 2.0 is much easier and produces better returns. A DOHC 2.4 with a SRT-4 bottom end is even better than that and cheaper to boot.

Your post has ZERO to do with this topic or street racing, just saying.

I agree with srt4eh. What is this guy using a 1.6 or 1.8 SOHC VTEC? The guy is retarded. I can beat a boosted 1.6, and I have. Guess what the gy's excuse was? "you're lucky my VTEC isn't working right". I laughed for an hour. DOHC > SOHC Any day. If you have the chance to drive a SOHC and DOHC back to back, you will see why. Nothing against a SOHC engine, but I will never own one over a DOHC. Same goes with manual transmission. I will never own an auto.

I beat an H22 swapped hatch one time =)

Fat ass driver, bad shifter, and he didn't seem to wanna rev it, he shifted like 2 grand earlier than what I think it should've shifted at.

That is funny! Not one factory D-Series is likely to make 100WHP, if it does, it is not by much. Don't even get me started on torque LMAO
