i wouldnt call it a waste its definitly original but not worth the effort i would agree. the 2.4 swap is much much better but for what i payed for the car it will definitly serve its purpose. i will have pics posted shortly. so far from what i can see the engine, trans, passenger side axle ,clutch pedal, cables, and shifter assembly seem to be daytona the rest is still neon its not too bad of a swap

I don't mean it was a waste on your part. You just bought the car.carboneon wrote:i wouldnt call it a waste its definitly original but not worth the effort i would agree. the 2.4 swap is much much better but for what i payed for the car it will definitly serve its purpose. i will have pics posted shortly. so far from what i can see the engine, trans, passenger side axle ,clutch pedal, cables, and shifter assembly seem to be daytona the rest is still neon its not too bad of a swap
It was a waste to the person that did it. Originality only gets you so far.

I don't really think it's a waste. the 2.4 is almost the same block. the SOHC 2.5 is a torquey motor if built right. there is a lot of info to be had on Turbo-mopar.com you can actually install a 2.4 head on the 2.5, but if I'm not mistaken, the 2.0 head is a better flowing design than the 2.4 head. Larger ports if 'm not mistaken. For right now install a NA 2.5 or 2.2 cam which is a cheap mod that nets better than average gains. The 2.5 is capable of pulling cars to less than 12 sec in the quarter with very little money involved. larger inter-cooler, lots of boost, alky/meth injection (aka windshield washer fluid and washer pump), a good tune (you can download the software for free if your running the original "LM" thats supposed to be on the engine). It's different but the 2.5 is a good motor and you have alot of options to bring it up to date. You'll need 52 lb/hr injectors and a 3 bar map sensor to *SAFELY* run more than 14lbs of boost. (again with the original LM out of the daytona).
I had a Shelby Lancer with a 2.2 running 18 lbs of boost and I had a hard time getting traction in 3rd gear with out meth injection and running 11.3 A/F all day. Parts are cheap (any junkyard) and there is alot of online support with very knowledgeable guys (not belligerent kids) on the turbo-mopar.com forum.
