This is after the zinc filler coat:
92K original miles. MTX. 2000W stereo. Who needs a vette or mustang? I don't.
Future color: BC05 from House of Kolor. http://www.houseofkolor.com/speedshapes ... imrin.jsp#
She was originally Lapis blue

Lapis blue, but it's not the factory color - it is metallic, with large flakes. This little lady is going to be beautiful!
The private shop does restorations and custom work. The chief is jealous of the color I choose. If you can find a shop with the paint chips, you'll find the web site does not do it justice.
BTW, here is what she probably looked like new:
I bought her for my daughter in HS when she got her license. That was in 2000. She let me have it to keep and got her own replacement. She just can't drive her as well anymore (MS), but she loves her cousin, an 05 PT.
With the new paint job, I hope to set a new standard for Lapis blue Neons. This is an ancient color actually, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapis_lazuli if you want to know more.
More details: They are keeping the three legged rear wing, but are going to make the joints clean, invisible. Also the door handles are going to be body color instead of black. They are also loosing the front licence plate holder (OK does not issue a front plate). They are taking their time and doing it right.
So far, I'm down about $5K for this restoration/stereo/oil leak fix/new rear struts. All on a base 96 coupe with a KBB value of $750. So, do I belong here?

I also think 1gn Neons, especially coupes, have a special beauty. Most folks ignore them as plain. But there is a minimalist beauty to it. It rides like a plush go-cart, but handles like one too. I can easily make maneuvers that would turn a SUV into a bowling ball. And, I have less impact on the environment. She did pass California inspection four years ago with flying colors. And I can still beat V8 trucks in the 100 yard dash.

I'm paying for a "shade-tree" job. He works a regular shop during the day, does side work in a private place. He does restorals and fixes up used cars for the new car lot where he works during the day. My skills are in computers, but I can turn a wrench.Ianguilly wrote:You doing this all in a shop or at home?
