Verizon can suck my ass

Post by Vinny » Sun Nov 08, 2009 7:46 pm

Any of you out there who may be looking for a new phone provider, do yourself a favor and go somewhere other than Verizon. I know people who are happy with their experience, and I'm pretty sure my problems are centered around the particular Verizon store by my house, but still, from what I have found there are better deals out there.

I had been with my previous phone provider (Cincinnati Bell Wireless) for about 8 years, was happy with the service itself but it was expensive, I had some billing issues, and their selection of phones sucked. I figured Verizon was a good choice so I went with them, but what ensued was the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE NIGHTMARE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. I was lied to about what my monthly bill would be, misled about how the plans worked, unknowingly given a plan that did not suit me in an attempt to make it look like I was getting a better deal, and when I tried to straighten things out I was further lied to and pretty much told to take a flying leap.

IF YOU TRY TO DISPUTE WHAT THEY TELL YOU, THEY WILL IMMEDIATELY THROW YOU OUT OF THE STORE AND/OR CALL THE POLICE. The only time I raised my voice, I said "PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE ME, SIR." as the manager turned and walked away from me while I was talking. He then promptly stated I would be escorted out of the store and when I further resisted he called the cops. I am being forced to jump through hoops to get my money back in cash (I paid cash) as opposed to waiting three weeks for a check to be mailed, but it looks like tomorrow I am finally getting my money back.

In the end I switched to T-Mobile, got a better plan for cheaper, a better Blackberry for cheaper, no contract, GREAT customer service and a AAA discount to boot. The Verizon employees all came off slick and douchey, where the guys at T-Mobile were total nerdy types. When it comes to electronics, I'll buy from a nerd over a douchebag anytime.

For those of you keeping track, that's two Blackberries and three service providers in six days. I had never even owned a camera phone before, this is what I ended up with:

Sorry for the novel, but my ass is still pretty chapped. Feel free to share your cell phone horror stories.

Its a Curve 8520.

The one I had first from Verizon was a Curve 8830:

The only thing I liked better about the 8830 was the camera had a shitty little flash so dark pics came out better, but overall I still like the 8520. Its smaller, lighter, and a bit easier to use, less cluttered of an interface, but I think that's mostly in the default theme.

Until a week ago I had never even owned a camera phone, its quite a jump.

Worst thing that happened to me was with my Koodo Mobile service.

Koodo is a cross between a pre-paid phone and a normal plan where instead of signing a contract to get a discount on the purchase price of your phone, you can put up to $150 of the price of your phone on a "tab" that you get a credit towards every time you pay your monthly bill. Every month, 10% of your bill gets taken off of your tab.

It's a pretty good service, and has no system access fees, and pretty good/customizable plans.

Anyway; it piggyback's its service off of another bigger phone company's system. Both were down for about a week where I couldn't receive any texts. I could make and receive calls, and everyone got my texts, but I had nothing incoming. It was basically a huge hassle because I text more often than I call people, and no info about the problem or resolution was given on either company's website, nor did I get a credit for the time I went without text.

Other than that, I love my Koodo phone, but lately I've been wanting a smartphone more and more...

That's really similar to T-Mobile's new thing. No contract, the plans are $10 cheaper than normal, but you pay full retail for the phone, divided up onto your bills. $17.50 of each bill goes toward the cost of my phone, how much of the cost you can finance (it's 0% interest) is determined by the state of your credit.

Being a AAA member saves me 13% on each bill, and waived the activation fee ($35)

I was with Cincinnati Bell before, no contract there either, but they just compensate by costing more than everyone else.

I hate Verizon. I had their service for over 10 years. Every month my bill was a different amount, always had some random charges that no one could explain, customer service was terrible, and their technology sucks.

I switched to AT&T when I got my iPhone, and couldn't be happier. My bill never changes from month to month, I'm paying less per month with a data plan than I was for a standard plan with Verizon, and AT&T uses sim cards so I can switch between phones in seconds. I had feared I would lose some coverage when I switched, but I haven't noticed a damn thing. I have a signal everywhere my girlfriends Verizon phone does. She's also switching to a different carrier because she's sick of the random charges.

I may switch to Boost mobile next summer when my contract is up. They have a $50 dollar unlimited talk, text, and data plan. I like AT&T, but money talks.

They still won't give me my money. Everyone I talk to at the two stores I have dealt with says something different, sometimes the same person will say two different things a few minutes apart, but what I keep hearing is that there is no way to give my refund in cash, even though that is how I paid. I was told yesterday that if I came back today after 5:00, then surely I could get my money. No dice.

If you sold something, would you let someone take the product and send you a check for the payment 3 weeks later? I will not give up my product unless I get my refund right then and there, at this point I have no reason to trust Verizon with my money.

Calling another store manager tomorrow, about to try the customer service line again, and I'm about to shoot my attorney an email here in a few to see what she says. At this point I have no problem suing just so I can get some compensation for the hours I have spent trying to get this straightened out.

Nowhere in Verizon Wireless' return policy does it state that refunds are only paid via mailed check.

Fuck Verizon. I had cingular from 2002 until they changed to AT&T. I've had no issues. The only issue I had was getting a replacement iPhone, and they still gave me the "new contract" discount to get it. It worked out pretty good.

Hmmm, I've never had an issue with Verizon. My mom has been with them for 9 or 10 years and I was on her plan up until almost 2 years ago.
Please PM or email me if you see any issues with the site.
