Mitsu Engine in Neon

Post by Red97 » Wed Mar 18, 2009 12:30 am

I'm trying to find a short block for my 97 neon, I heard the 420a was used in the Eclipse. Anyone knows if it's true. It would make it easier to find one.

Yes, the 420a was used in the eclipse but not the neon.
Please PM or email me if you see any issues with the site.

According to Neons.org site the 420A engine is what is used in 95-99 neon and 95-99 Eclipse. I'm trying find out if it true so I can have a better chance of finding one. I read the only difference is the cylinder head. I already rebuilt the head on my engine, so all I need is the short block.

In the neon it was called the ECB or ECC, whatever the Chrysler coding was, the Mitsu version (with the backwards flowing head) was called the 420a. You can use the block, and a few people have used the heads, but that isn't a worthwhile swap.

my buddy with his 97 eclipse cracked his block. took a block from a SOHC neon and bolted on the DOHC head and it all lined up to stock mounts in his eclipse
Got Neon?
