Oil and airbag lights

Post by Tyler » Sat Mar 03, 2007 4:44 pm

My oil light randomly comes on when Im driving around. It will be on for about 10 minutes and then go off for a longer period of time. My car runs fine, but since I did my head swap the light randomly comes on. And what does the oil light look like just so I know thats the light? lol

Last night I was crusin and my airbag light came on. WTF? I have no clue why, but it came on twice when I was just crusin slow. Why would it come on?

The lamp lights up when the Airbag Control Module grounds the R41 circuit.

No.. Coolant looks like a bunch of waves with a thermometer.

That's a drawing of the oil light.

Codes for oil or what? Oil wont' throw any codes as if I'm not mistaken the oil pressure switch isn't connected to the PCM and the only thing it does is turn the cluster light on and off.

If the car is running fine then what is wrong. Is it the pump? How could I tell?

oil pressure warning light

Post by sandstone » Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:38 am

The oil pressure warning light is illuminated when the oil pressure drops below a specified level. It doesn't necessarily correspond to the amount of oil in the pan. If the pressure truly is low, the oil pressure warning light usually illuminates at low engine rpm. You could remove the sending unit from the back of the engine (between cylinders #3 and #4 - you'll need a special oil pressure sending unit socket, available at most parts stores) and check the pressure with an oil pressure guage or just try installing a new sending unit to see if the problem disappears. If you choose to check the pressure with a guage, the oil pressure at idle (engine warmed to normal operating temperature) should be at least 4 psi and 25-80 psi at 3000 rpm, according to the 1997 neon factory service manual from Chrysler. Specs are the same for SOHC and DOHC engines.

As said before this usually indicates that the sender is going bad.

Or you are low on oil (If this happens around turns or stopping/going)
