my 2.4 n/a build

Post by jewell » Wed Oct 10, 2007 10:02 pm

ok guys i know i was going to do an srt setup but ive changed my mind once again. im now doing a 2.4 n/a build. i dnt know if this has been done before but im doing it. these are some of my plans

CAR:
96 neon sport
2.4 swap

HEAD:
full port and polish
crane 22
titainium valves, springs,and retainers
aem ajustable cam gears

INTAKE AND EXHAUST:
itb setup (being build as we speek) by Huff welding and fabrication
kirk longtube(might have to have a custom exhaust build to keep up with the air leaving)

FUEL:
MS v3
lorenzo fuel rail
walbro 255 lph w/ spoolboy mod
stage one injectors

im not exactly sure what size injectors i will be runnig or if im going to run an rrfpr yet to keep up with the air being put in the car. any suggestions would be greatly appriciated

thanks

What are you gonna do with the bottom end??? You'll need some more compression to deal with the 22's, and with all the air you are putting in, find a better header than the kirk and 2.5" piping.

You will probably want at least 10.5:1 compression ratio with those cams. Are you planning on street driving this engine?

it really sounds like you need to do ALOT more researching before you screw up that engine. SRT pistons are low comp because turbo engines hve to have lowered compression. You would need Eagle rods and JE pistons which will cost you a good grand if you buy new. Good luck

you guys are right. i wasnt paying attention to what i was saying about the srt rods and pistons. but as it stands i wont be running the 22s for a while. i would like to have something in there tho that would help till i can drop a grand in the bottom. any sugestions would be a great help for right now.

RRFPR's are boost referenced. They will not work for N/A applications. You could use an adjustible fuel pressure regulator to bump up the fuel pressure to help compensate but you would have to add a return fuel line.

Use crane 18's and a stock bottom end. Have the head milled some to increase the compression. Don't bother with the titanium retainers or valves. That 2.4 wont ever spin fast enough to need a that light of a valvetrain. All you need are the springs; get them from Crower.

For fuel, you would probably be good with 24lb injectors. Add a 58psi regulator if you need a little more.

You wont be able to make enough power to really have to worry about the bottom end breaking (as long as its in good condition). And with 18's, you wont have to worry about turning very high RPM.
