that sounds like their insurance company talking, since they know that most of their techs are from the bottom of the barrel.
I helped a friend put a body lift on his F350 years ago at his work. the bed bolts kept popping up while he was under it, so I climbed up into the bed while it was up on the lift to hold the bolts down. man, that thing was unstable! I don't know how it didn't fall off the lift then...

We just about dropped a Dodge Ram off a lift at school last year. Rear passenger side arm slipped off frame rail and it was barely up there. Luckily it didn't hit the ground like that.
And Pete, I love the sig.

Their lifts were crap, cars that lifted with the pinch welds were the only ones that were stable. trucks were deadly and I either threw em up on jackstands or lifted just enough to get the wheels off.
I work on my own cars and do not trust places like sears or jiffy lube to even look at my shit from across the parking lot.

a properly balanced vehicle will not fall off a hoist, I've seen the arm pivots bannana peel, but if the arms came out then it is IMO operator failure...but I cannot see me ever using a hoist that looks like that. 15 years of putting cars,1/2 tons and bigger inthe air..never yet to have an experience like that...I've even pulled an arm out from under the vehicle to access a spot on the vehicle..leaving just three arm under..it wont come down..if its up right and is a properly maintained hoist

it is old Air and hydraulic lift. and it shakes and hops all the way down, it has had a arm come out before without dropping the car. but this time the car must have moved just right to fall. I was using the factory lift points and the thing was rock solid when I lifted it.

you have the right not to use a hoist if it is unsafe, for insurance purposes our hoists need to be inspected and serviced every year. You could fight being fired over that instance if you can prove that the hoist was junk

How bout two of the others have the valves dissasembled because they were bad enough one of the old mecanics took them apart. and one will litterly shoot straight up and out of the floor! I don't think they ever inspect them.
