Project: Circle Jerk

So no cool name for it yet, I still haven't picked it up, but here's what I'm getting:

Doesn't look like much, but it doesn't have to be much for what I'm gonna do with it. It's a 95 SOHC mtx, it's been in an accident obviously but it's still "straight" except for some replacable parts etc. No big deal though.

Getting it in a trade for my old 2.4. I was gonna rebuild it but this guy said he'd give me a SOHC 2.0 and a 3.55 trans from a car he was parting out, so I figured if he's parting it out he won't need the chassis lol, so I get the whole thing, plus a 95 ACR SOHC pcm. Plus he wants mtx swap parts for his other car and also a side motor mount from me.

Plans:

Gut it out
Make switch panel for ignition and shit
Roll cage (that'll be the hardest part)
Safety equipment (seat, harness, etc, I already have a helmet)
Weld doors shut, hood/trunk pins, chain bumper on, etc

Basically follow the rules for the Bandit class at 2 local tracks here

Spray bomb it NYG or equivalent and get a number for it. It won't be pretty but it don't have to be. We're gonna go look at it on Wednesday and possible drive it home if I'm up for it, otherwise his buddy will haul it to Baraboo for gas money lol. I can't wait :)

Good shit. I've thought about turning my beater neon into a dirt track racer.

We'll come up with something. It'll most likely fall under our race team along with the Busa car since it'll be the same people working on it, except for I'll be the one funding this project lol. It more than likely won't be ready to race this year, but over the winter a cage will be put in it for sure and it might get a DOHC transplant with some little tricks :)

Picked it up today, drove it 100 miles looking like that with no plates (I'm damn lucky lol). No tach and the fuckin' shifter cable end snapped off, guess his JB Weld fix didn't work well since I got like .1 miles. Lol, at least I had vice grips along so I did a little 2-hand shifting :)

Runs great though.

Just picked up 2 SOHC bottom ends, 2 SOHC heads (only one had a cam), a clutch, and 3 bumpers for it (2 front, 1 back, all 3 beat up but that's what'll happen to them anyways) for $100 today.

Plan is to rebuild all 3 SOHC's I got with DOHC pistons, decked heads, 95 cams (got 2 already), and stock everything else (per the rules), have 3 stock clutches, and bolt each engine to a 3.55 trans so if something breaks, I can just swap the whole powertrain in and have 2 backups. All I still need is 1 clutch and 1 more 3.55 trans and miscellaneous crap and I'll be set for that.

Just got it running again. Picked up a neonful of parts from plainrt in Sheboygan today, only 1/3 of the stuff I'm getting from him. Included basically all I needed to get it up and running, battery tray, battery, and other random parts.

Rigged up my own EGR blockoff plates with some 22 gauge aluminum and black RTV silicone. Works great. Also realized when I started it that I forgot about the nipple on the tb that used to be hooked up to the EVAP system, so a bunch of electric tape fixed that.
