First Time DYNO
I'm still kinda new to this first gen thing, since my DD is a 05'. But I got bored one day and picked me up a BONE stock 3.55 geared 1998 coupe, factory NO A/C, to play with. Oh man this thing was a terd! That had to get fixed, FAST. Took it by an exhaust shop and had a straight threw muffler installed and a new CAT. The installer was amazed that any exhaust was getting threw that old CAT at all. Time for a new test drive. Holly sheet, not quite as terdish as before. Man I could go on, and on, and on, etc. Too sum this up a lil quicker, this is a total list of stuff done to the car:
Everything from the drivers seat back is removed
Carpet is removed
Relocated battery to the trunk
Home made CAI from a 3.0L intake and a 90 degree bent pipe
Removed the powersteering
Removed the injector humps out of the intake manifold
Homemade EGR block off
52mm Automatic throttle body
Fart pipe
After all of that the car felt really peppy for a SOHC engine. So I was like, well lets go to the dyno. So me and my buddies ride up to the DYNO (local dyno day). All my buddies drive 1st gen neons, and me being the newest and slowest, I got to go last. My buddy rick with his 5 spd SOHC ran 133 hp and 123 tq. My other buddy with the 2.4 swap with bolt ons ran 146 hp and 166 tq. Lets just say they were both pissed. So there I was, between a DYNO and some pissed off ricers. So I ran my car anyway. I ended up running, get this, a wopping 102 hp and 113 tq. Hell F'ing yes. I get a dyno sheet that proves my terdness. But it was a fun time nun the less. The local dyno is a hot spot for the local mustangs, so they were all happy when we left. I will post some pictures of my car and all the dyno sheets ASAP. Oh yea, the 2.4 neon runs a 9.18 on street tires in the 1/8th mile. We raced, and by 85mph, he had a car on me. Good, Bad. For me I guess.

Perhaps the cam timing is off. I know in one of Mcarp22's (on neons.org) sohc neons it was and makes a huge difference.

and " Arwin was off by a tooth advanced and ran about an 18.0 on speednation's dyno. Did a headgasket and the car ran 16.0 at the track the next weekend."
What kind of dyno was it? Mustang, dynojet, other?
If you have the sheet, post it!

It was a DYNO jet most likely. It says on my graph. My buddy is copying the sheets over to his computer so I should be able to post it tomorrow. I liked how my tq stayed even all the way across the rpm range. Also, I got a question to ask. For how much my buddy beat me in his 2.4 swapped neon. And for how my car has like nothing done to it. I ask, does it really take that much to make a neon "ALL MOTOR" go that much faster, or could my car be a factory freak? The motor in my car has 128,000 original miles on it, but I've had it for about 8,000 miles. I guess the old lady before me took good care of it.
More than I got and just a bit faster in the 1/8th. I figured I'd be putting down 140-145 whp. Not that it's a huge deal to me, I got 3 other projects going that are more important than my DD.StreetEviL wrote:Kirk long tube header, mopar performance PCM, 2.0 cams, 55mm TB, 2.5" exhaust piping w/ dynomax muffler, iceman intake, and a return line with a fuel regulator.

Doubt it. High 9's in a SOHC works out to around mid-high 15's. I bet you get 10.5-10.8

Its been awhile now and I've been to the track. And Oh yea, I beat all my expectations. I should kick my ass for losing my time slips on slicks though. My first pass on street tires was a 9.99. I mean, I am a big ol boy 300lbs. My bubby that weighs a lot less then me jumps in and runs a 9.64 right of the bat. Skinny little basterd. Then we put the slicks on and my buddy runs a 9.40 flat, with a 1.97 60". When we took the slicks off, we found that the passenger side slick had been rubbing the strut. So, I think a 9.30's may have been possible if the slick wasn't rubbing the strut. I might be able to find a video of the run on slicks if I am lucky, but I can post pics of the time slip I have as soon as I get my scanner working. As well as pics of the car. Turbo to come!
