Cutting springs
Hey guys I have a 99 highline.I got it for a trade for a jacket.I have a 95 540i which is nive and fast an this neon is like a toy to me ive been modifying it with $0 in budget for it.I used to have a 95 sport but I had to sell it because our house got forclosed on i was in the middle of a clutch replacement and port and polish of head. Now that i think back i really miss that car.Well to get to the point.
I think my highline would look better sittin a little lower and like I said $0 budget. What is the rule of thumb for cutting springs.I have never done it.Like a cut a coil = this much drop.Get what im saying?I would really like to take it 3/4 to an inch lower how much would you reccomend cutting from the front and rear to obtain that amount.

The problem with those sleeves is the junk spring rates they come with. Throw away those springs, and measure how much spring you'll need, order 300lb/in for the front, and 250lb/in for the rear. They might work.
I'd suggest megan springs instead, they're like $150.

my advice... dont !
saw someone over here in Quebec that did it... lost a wheel 2 weeks later...
lucky for him, he wasnt on the highway, but it's still did major damage to the car

from personal experience and having all three types of springs sets on my three neons i can say this.
My 98 Rt Turbo coupe
(koni adjustable shocks and struts on mopar lowering springs)
the heights a 1in drop and i can adjust it soft or stiff pretty good ride
My 96 SOHC highline coupe
(Eiboch sportline (Red) lowering springs)
2inch from unless you have new shocks and struts its stiff but managable. kinda bumpy
My 95 2.4 swap 4dr sedan
(ebay coilovers and sleeves)
on stock struts moddified to fit the sleeves on, down to a 2inch drop,
if you have good struts you CAN you ebay sleeves ive been doin it for nearly a month and nothin happen. done right there good blown struts make it bounce but the height holds itself.

if your looking for opinion use what you have, ive tried dif ones and im seeing the pros and cons as they sit on my cars. its really about your area and how you drive. ive drivin on the ebay coils for sometime.
either way you put in it depends on you this is my 2cents if it matters
hope this helps

I've heard from many Koni Adjustable owners that a good or New set of Koni's with any lowering spring = as good as if not better ride than coilovers.
