2.1 quorts is fill capacity right? t350

Post by wpgneon » Wed Jul 14, 2010 12:19 pm

96 sohc 3.55 final drive t-350

i just got it rebuild this week and they didnt fill it with oil.

14.75$ x .13(tax) for a quort so i wanna make sure i dont get more then what i need.

and should i fill it with 1 bottle first, then connect tranny to engine and fill the rest of it till its at the level of the oil plug on drivers side?

sweet, and thx

You need to check with a dodge dealership to see if there is a substitute, I have a 99 dohc with a 5 speed manual I changed the tranny fluid in, one dealership told me I HAD to use thier product but when I called another dealership they said I could use atf4 automatic synthetic fluid which cost 6 bucks a qt at autozone. I bought 3 quarts cause it says it takes 2.3 quarts but honestly I cracked open the 3rd qt and didn't use hardly any out if it and it was full, up to you but to me the extra 6 bucks was a waste of money. Also I wouldn't fill it until it's in, otherwise you'll have to wait for it to settle before you can add more to it.

you definitely have to wait until its installed to fill it. without axles in all the fluid will leak out. Drakito on the big org, and many more, recommend Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W30 as a replacement for the NVT fluid. you can get the 5 quart bottle of Mobil 1 for the price of 2 quarts of the NVT stuff. don't use ATF+4

Definitely fill the trans after installing it. Fill until it comes out of the fill plug.

There are lots of fluids that will work. I would go for Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF, Mopar fluid, Royal Purple MTF, Penzoil Synchromesh, or M1 high mileage. M1 high mileage 10w30 is good but can cause harsh shifting in cold weather. I would use ATF+4 only as a last resort.

Ive been using Amsoil MTF for a while now.

I've had atf+4 in mine for months and not had any trouble, def shifts better than it did before.

This is the best way. It is also what the Chrysler FSM says in the fluid capacities section as well. Mine didn't take all of the 2nd quart.

Nobody said ATF+4 doesn't work, its just not as good as the other fluids available for this application. Chrysler started putting ATF+4 in the T350 to save money, not because it was better for the trans or better than the original fluid. If you drive hard, ditch the ATF.

i allways use mopar manual transaxle lubricant NV T350 part number 04874465. It is hard to get a hold of and most offen you have to special order it. It cost way to much, i think it cost $20 a quart when i replaced my trans 4 moths ago.

I used Pennzoil Synchromesh. 2.5 quarts, or until it comes out the fill plug, whichever happens first.
