repainting my rt
alrighty i got a 98 rt flame red is now primer in process of being repainted same color and Im not very good at painting and my dad hasnt done it sense high school and dont wanna a shitty job.
So im asking if i took my bumpers off and of course my lights and all that and took my car to macco with my front and rear bumpers they'd prep and paint it and do a good job for cheap and using dodge flame red? IF any one had takin there car there before to and how resonable it was.
Sadly i went and put a kit on my car till i realized what i had but my car did need to be repainted any was faded on hood and trunk and then my dad was painting something with a can of silver paint and instead of moving my car he just started and the can exploded and got all over my drivers side so it was fucked anyway my door jams and in the sunroof opening and trunk all thats still red.
so im putting the stock fog bumper back on with a civic type r lip and just leaving the ww rear clip on but takin the ww sides off think will look good and painting it red again and i gotta put the stripes back on which i also wanna ask if anyone on here knows where i can buy the stock rt stripes to put back on as well as any input would be great.
Thanks in advance, Jason

you get what you pay for......macco can do very good paint jobs if you pay for them....but when you buy the 250 dollar jobs its only going to last a year or two

It honestly depends. Yes they normally use a cheaper paint, but if the primer and body work is done properly as well as a good bath and dry for the car before the paint is applied the car could come out just fine. I myself have seen the 250 paint job only last a year or two, but that was on a guys car who did not wash it or anyting before he dropped it off to them, no primer, body work, nothing.
And then ive seen it last at present time 5 years... The car has no flaking or bubbles in the paint or clear. now granted this car was blocked, filled and sanded before going to them.
honestly in my opinion is if you are going to go to that much trouble to do all the prep work, you should just get a gun and learn to spray yourself. If you buy the paint it could run your less or even the same or slightly more for a 10x better paint job. Painting takes practice. I just got a hood and prepped it and painted it for practice. First time it turned out alright, has some fish eye in it, sanded down to medal, re prepped and painted again after talking to my painter uncle. Came out pretty good. So if i can do it, anyone else can too.

Cool thanks, I have all the body work done and filled in a few dings like i said its just sittin in primer right now and needs to be deffinetly prepped somemore before paint. i do have a gun but i dont think my air compressers powerfull enough. You know what a recommended compresser would be so i can pick one up and i know there not cheap.

As was mentioned above, Maaco can do a decent paint job as long as you pay for the prep. If you're not paying for the prep, then make sure you take your time in doing it yourself. The paint job I had on my car before this last one (red & black) was done at Maaco. My friends and I sanded, primed, and wet sanded the car BEFORE we took it to them. Once we got there, I removed the hedlights, taillights, signals, and wiper arms before handing over my keys. Also, if you have aftermarket wheels on your ride now, put the steelies on for the paint shop. Overspray is a BITCH to get off of aluminum wheels.
On another note, if your dad has painted before, why not work on your car together. The two of you may surprise yourselves, and each other with the final product. Either way have fun with it.

I think you should paint the stripes back on but either do them a shade or two lighter or darker of a red. i think would like nice. then they are kinda sleeper stripes

Yeah my dad wants to help me with it just been along time sense he painted but i think me and him will do it together and its always nice for farther and son to work on something together, and the darker or lighter stripes sounds pretty neat be like ghost stripes.
how big of an air compressor i need i know i need a better one to do a paint job

I have a 26 gallon compressor that i used when i sprayed the engine bay in the car i'm rebuilding the motor for. The truth of the matter is, get the biggest compressor you can. You can never have too much compressor and you can adjust the gun's operating pressure at the gun's inlet.
I used the Dupli-Color Paint Shop Black and I think it came out okay. Especially since it was my first time doing so.
**NOTE: The cinder block isn't holding the car up. There are 2 jack stands there. I had someone else there with me and between them and that block, that's how i got in and out of the engine bay.**
