Where do you jack? - Jack Points
Where do you jack? - Jack Points
lol, where on the bottom of your car do you guys place your jack when jacking up your car from the front? I use my Front MM but it sounded like a weld or something cracked a minute ago so I dropped it quick and I need to get under there. So where else?
anything solid you can use.
there is jack slots underneath the side of the car just right behind the wheel, the metal lip. If you have ur manual check it ... it shows u specifically.
I've even used the regular floor and then put stands underneath it right away i wouldn't recommend leaving it like that.

Is there a way to fix the little side-strip of metal that is the 'typical' spot to jack?
Mine are all bent up from being used so much..

pinch rails are the best opint to jack from. fmm and/or cross member can slide off the jack, keep in mind when going up the jack is going to roll as a function of the jack effectively becoming shorter and taller. On rough ground, this usually doesn't happen, instead the pad slides which can drop the car off the jack and cause a slight interferance problem with the oil pan and jack....bad thing.
Rare but have seen it happen. Best bet, use the pinch weld or in that general area and lift side by side. Front motor mount is generally a good place but the welds that hold the front insert in are not the strongest int he world, i usually end up redoing em on the majority of first gens that come into the shop as they have broken over time.

jacking points for neons
According to the 1997 neon factory service manual from Chrysler, there are 3 acceptable points for using a floor jack to raise the front of the neon: the motor mount, and the left and right 3" diameter L-shaped frame rails behind the front wheels. The jack should be placed at the point (bend) in the L. When raising the rear of the neon, the jack should contact the 3" diameter rear crossmember between the rear wheels, beneath the lateral arms.

You should never use the rear crossmember as a jacking point, it can bend and change rear alignment settings.

You should never use the rear crossmember as a jacking point
The 1997 factory service manual for neons from Chrysler specifically designates the rear crossmember as a jacking point when using a floor jack. The factory service manual goes on to state "A floor jack must never be used on any part of the underbody." 1997 neon Factory Service Manual, Chrysler Corp., p. 0-9.
