R/t Question

Post by DMez » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:07 am

If i was reading right, the R/T wasnt introduced until 1997.

Is this correct?

I've seen a few cars marked for sale as an R/T but the year is 1995...if the RT wasnt introduced until 1997 that can't be right can it?

More info about what makes an R/T an R/T would be nice. I read the FAQ an neons.org....but i'm just really curious about this car for sale.

the R/T was only sold in 98 and 99,

they are a blend of the highline and the acr, they come in four colors: red, white, black and intense blue, strips are usually on them but not always

they have the acr tranny and suspension minus the koni struts and spring rates

they are DOHC only

they have a leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob

usually are fully loaded with options

they also have light weight alloy wheels and a speed limiter of 130

they also have special seats with high side bolsters and special tango fabric

thanks. I e-mailed the dealer about it and i'm curious as to what they will say.

Hoping i can get a deal out of it, cause it is in good condition but advertised as an RT but according to the info they give and what you say, it's a false advertisement.

From the pics i've seen it looks to be a SOHC and a stripe near the trunk that doesnt seem to be original.

i would ask them to give you the car for $200-300

if they say no, tell them you will report them for false advertising

You are wrong there. They came in 4 doors too. The 4 Sedan R/T's had sohc's in them. And I believe they all came from the factory with Stipes. If they arent there, they have been removed if its a real r/t.

wrong again, sorta. while you were correct that there are R/T sedan's, those also came with a DOHC.

The stripes could be deleted, but you got no price credit for them.

A lot of misinformation in this thread.

R/Ts never came with a SOHC, you are confused with ACR sedans.

if the dealer is advertising a car as an r/t and it's below year 98 i would be weary of even buying from a dealer like that.

Well sorry then. Ive seen it multiple times on the other .org. Many many people saying it so I just assumed it was true. My bad, I'll stay out of threads I'll make myself look like a dumbass in..

Simply put...
All R/T's were DOHC
All R/T's have 4 wheel disc
Stripes could be deleted ( no $$ credit)
R/T's were available as 2 or 4 door
All R/T's were 5 speed
All R/T's had fog lights

also the stripes are not painted, so there are only 2 options for why a R/T doesnt have stripes. either dealer removed, or previous owner removed.

Factory stripes did not extend to the bumpers.

not all R/T's are fully loaded, sunroof was an option along with power windows.

They were only available in the following colors:
Red, White, Intense Blue and Black

Red with silver stripes
White with blue stripes
Black with silver stripes
Intense Blue with silver stripes
06 Subaru STI WRB ~ BC Coilovers, Kartboy Bushings
98 Neon R/T 2.4L Turbo Coupe ~ Project car
2007 -Purchased and stripped
2011 -Needs a tune and minor things
02 Neon R/T ~ 08/08/08 -traded for the 07 Caliber R/T (03/14/11 -traded Caliber for STI)

ok heres the reason i asked...

Dealership in Port Washington, WI is selling a 1995 NYG. for $2,788.

They have it advertised as a R/T on cars.com I knew something wasnt right cause i was reading about this before and well, the years dont add up and neither do the colors.

Looking closely at the pics they had on cars.com it looks like a SOHC as well, cant guarantee that though.

I was being greedy cause i wanted the NYG to myself, it looks like an original NYG cause the year adds up for that and the in the pics, the engine bay is the correct color, so it doesnt look like someone just repainted it.

More info:
4 Door
Spoiler
Fog Lights
MTX
Box intake (same location as stock w/ snorkel)
Single fan Rad.
ABS
AC
Alloys (I dont think they are stock)
Bogus RT Badge
Black stripe wrapping the trunk
Power windows
Chrysler steering wheel (has the Chrysler star rather than "Neon" in center)
Nothing special about the interior
