Hey Neon-ers! I just traded a 1985 Chevy Blazer rolling shell for a project 2.4 swapped Neon. It's complete pretty much but it's having some running issues.

This is the blazer i traded.

And this is the Neon

The motor runs really smooth when it runs good. No ticks, taps, or knocks. Right now it is having a sputtering issue and i can give it much gas. I can ease it up to like 3500rpm or so. I drove it around the block and it was cutting in and out when trying to give it gas. I woke up in first for about 3 seconds and it accerated fine until it proceed to die. It can start right up and run the same like a minute later. Me and my buddies figured it was a map or maf sensor. Also the post cat o2 sensor isn't hooked up at all.

All i know right now is the neon has a 2.4 from a stratus, obx header, lowered idk how or how much, shaved rear doors, rear body kit and side skirts, no front bumper, and the rear windows were painted. I'm going to ditch the side skirts and bumper for stock ones all around. Also ditching the paint on the windows. I also need to make some sort of hood for it and build an exhaust from the header back.

I would first start off by finding a good DOHC intake manifold and swap it on, with the correct upper radiator hose and everything. The downstream O2 doesn't matter. I would check the MAP sensor, neons do not have a MAF sensor.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into the intake manifold swap.

I'm not too worried about the hose for right now. I will change it once i start driving it.

And me and my buddies were going to check the map sensor tomorrow.

Ok so, with the 2.4 swap, are you supposed to run the factory 2.0 DOHC map sensor and computer and such?? I looked for a 2.4 map sensor on autozone.com and i have a 2.0 DOHC map sensor in the intake.

Also i think the computer is the factory computer, if not then the 2.4 is from a 96 i'm guessing because the computer says 1996 on it.

I got it running good enough to drive around. It still sputters pretty bad but then wakes up. It runs better without the map plugged in.

It also has a weird issue with it only allowing me to rev to 4000rpm. it starts bouncing like redline at 4k.

You need a 2.0 map sensor and a 2.0 DOHC computer to get it running properly. The 2.0 DOHC intake manifold has the waterneck integrated so the hose will sit down a bit lower. It's in limp mode is why it only revs to 4k. I would definitely look at the wiring to make sure it's all done right. Maybe they tossed it in there without changing the wiring at all.

the 4k redline is gone when the map is plugged in, but i think it is still bad. Maybe some other sensors. It runs smooth-ish when floored but when i'm trying to just cruise it sputters and bucks n shit.

lol @ the hacked up hood. I'd check all the wiring and make sure the 2.4 is wired up correctly. Then check to make sure you've got good spark and that the injectors are functioning correctly.
