start with inexpensive basics like he said, if some exhaust work could be done i suggest it too. theres a few tricks like 2.7 rocker swap gives your cams more lift, and they can be found in a junk yard.

Ok guys so I got a air intake, cheap off carpart.com, and it has a loud sound. Mmm haha now she's straight piped. If I did weight reductions, would she still pass emisions? And also, I noticed that my car overheats when I get on the brakes hard, any ideas why?

weight reductions would not cause you to fail emissions. As for the overheating....I've never heard of that...

Haha well that kinda scares me. What would the difference be between a dohc and my sohc?

an extra cam silly. alot is different. imo the dohc is better, it just can get more power for the mods. far as your overheating issue, only thing i can think of is a blockage in the radiator so tht when your slowing down no air is getting through, but thats highly unlikely seeing as your not braking for extensive distances. check your cooling system out, thermostat, h2o pump, and the radiator itself.

Well the radiator itself is only about 5 months old. Could it be because I'm using water and not coolant and how would I know if there was a blockage?

if theres a blockage, it wont flow. and water alone cools better then just a 50/50 mix, but has a much lower boiling point, so in short, YES it can be a problem. something worth mentioning the first time eh.

i agree drain the water and do a 50/50 mix. the water boils so easy your losing it more than likely. as for performance i just did the 3.0 intake today with a little help from my brother. she pulls alot harder after about 3,000 rpm's but if you just got a cheap intake does it go around back where the stock airbox would be? if so your still sucking in the hot air from over the exhaust. the 3.0 intake pulls cold air from down under the battery tray at front of car before anything heats that air up.

yea, the cheap one goes where the stock was, and im thinking when i do my flush, that ima change the thermastat and change the radiator cap just to be safe.

If you really want to go fast on the cheap, get a 2.4, build it up, and swap it in =)

:withstupid: even a stock n/a version is still better then the 2.0 and will have better potential for bolt ons down the road.

How was that stupid? I guess rebuilding a 2.4 to put in (even in stock form) is too expensive for neon guys, huh?
