How to make custom gauges for $13

Post by nela1984 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 8:15 pm

First This is how I did it.. If anyone has anouther way and would like to add somthing feel free...

1. get a plastic folder ( I used got it at walmart for $1.) or somthing easly seen through when light is added.
Get some small numbers and letters (stickers are best way to go since they will not interfear with needles. I had to shave back side of needles for clearance on mine. ) . I found some around the same size as stock ones for about $9 at a local hobbie shop. Dont forget some superglue.

2. Pop up top dash cover and remove gauges.

3. Remove the plastic sheild from gauges held on my small star bit screws. Remove the gauge needles and carefully remove the face... They are guled on in some spots.

4. Trace out the pattern on to the folder, then you need to tape the newly cut out pice to the front of the old cluster.

5. Now you need some light. I beleave a lightbright would work rather well but all i had was a old cold beer sign from a bar. Lay your cluster across and trace out the numbers speed locations ect. Rember to cut out the spots for you needles, pins, miles and the trip. razor works rather well..

6. Now you have the location of all your lights numbers ect. Take a pair of twezers and the super glue, and add your numbers and latters. Now you can clear coat it to help keep every thing in place reassemble it and now your gauge cluster is fully custom the way you want it for around $13...
