Very nice. I noticed when I swapped the Rocker arms on my old SOHC not only did it make the tapping noise it also run like a Harley for a few minutes until the lifters filled up... Does the DOHC do that as well?

no mine didn't ...

The SOHC lifters/rockers are different. They are actually a whole unit and you need to soak the whole thing in oil.

I think it all comes down to how you prep the lifters.
Mine soaked in oil for prob 30 minutes to an hour and i didn't have any tapping at all when i started up.
Although without the tap i still shot the engine to 3k and held it there for 30 seconds to make sure they were loaded with oil before i took the car out for a drive.
Cautionary method that's all.

Is the knock commonly found in dohc engines caused by the lifters? Is there any difference in performance?

ugh not that i know of?
The only noise that should come from the lifters is a loud ticking noise showing that they are bad or are going bad.

I guess it would be called a ticking. Im not an expert but it sounds like something in the valvetrain. Ive heard four dohc neons that do it. three of them with less that 75k on the motor. plus mine does it occasionaly even after I rebuilt my engine.
