They're "brand new" 1997 cars. For 4k each I bet they would sell like hot cakes most places. I know here in my city they would. It's an older car with zero miles (maybe 10?) and it runs, drives, everything. That's a steal in my eyes!

Your not taking in account all the stuff they would need to do just to get them to run again, then they'll go up in price.

Depends on what each car needs that's been sitting there. Neons aren't hot items in the first place.

Someone would probably have to invest $450k-500k up front and hope that they sell for over $4000 each.

Much better investments out there that are safer.

A car that has sat for 14 years unused is likely to have a lot of issues, most of the rubber silicone and plastics will need to be replaced. Looks like they were stored in a place that left them exposed to elements, if not rain, so there could be a lot of rust, not only in expected places like the exhaust system, but in places where you wouldn't find it on a car that's been used regularly, like inside the crankcase, rusty valves and pistons from moisture collecting inside the engine. Cars aren't meant to be left sitting for years unmaintained like that, it almost always does bad things to them. If they have batteries in them, many of them have probably exploded, and the battery acid has likely eaten away at important structural parts of the unibody. I've seen this many times in cars that have sat for years with batteries left in them. The wheel bearings may be shot as well, flat spotted from all those years without being moved. The list of possible problems in such vehicles is endless, entropy does nasty things to machinery which is designed for motion.

I'd definitely prefer a car that's been driven every day and well maintained to one that sat for over a decade untouched. They are sure to have many unusual problems that you'd never see in the average 14 year old car that's been in continuous use.

Anyone disagree with that quote?
I know, I posted it once... Didn't think anyone saw it. To me, it makes sense though.

They may have problems but that post was a bit on the extreme side. You don't want to buy them all with expectations they don't need anything done.

80% of that post seems pretty accurate to me, even though most of it is opinions.
My car had a bad wheel bearing when i bought it, and it sat for about a year. Also had a bad radiator. Belts, are probably dry rotted, as well as tires. Interior is probably mint though. If I could get one for $1500 to my driveway, it's probably be worth it. Other than that, it'll need a ton of maintenance work before it's safe to hit the roads.

Would make a great shell for a Swap... Still more to it involving that route too.

Just because your car had a bad wheel bearing, and it sat for a year, doesn't mean the wheel bearing went bad from sitting. Wheel bearings go bad all the time. Same goes for radiators. How do you know they weren't bad before?

Yes, they will probably need stuff replaced. Batteries, belts, and fluids to start with.

The difficult part would be shipping them over.

Exactly. probably cost more than the car does.

Just little stuff. I know there are safer investments, but it's not like you're wasting money on it. I'm not saying neons are hot items either.

I say it is a waste of money. You obviously don't know what's all involved when flipping cars.

i can say it would be kewl to own one, but agree, not a hot ticket item. and they would at least need some tlc for road use. arent they right hand drive though? thats the coolest part...
It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom!
