Project Uranium, brought to you by X-Factor Engineering

Post by chipdogg » Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:57 pm

Forgive me for the semi-lame names but my buddy came up with them and he's the one with the bank account and he started it all so I won't argue with that.

Here's "Project Uranium"

Custom built race car (62 inch track and 96 inch wheelbase) geared towards SCCA Class D Modified Solo Autocross.
Frame will be built from scratch as designed by Adam in Solid Works from DOM steel.
Powered by 2000 Suzuki GSX 1300R (Hayabusa) engine, run by Megasquirt (that's my job lol)
Drivetrain will be a Quaiffe from a Subaru (hopefully) and chain driven. Engine will be behind seats.
Brakes will be Wilwood brakes, coilovers and all kinds of neat shit. Suspension will be practically same as Indy cars have.
Will have paddle shifting and will haul ass.

2 weeks ago we finished up the mock-up of the frame, which consists of about 120 feet of 1/2" conduit and a roll of duct tape.

Engine arrived about a month ago and is chilling on my engine stand in our basement:

(Sorry for the quality, it's from my phone)

Megasquirt arrived earlier this week and will be built by me soon. Megasquirt II, v3.0 board. Since the Busa engine is a COP setup we'll have to probably go to MS I for now and run wasted spark until they release the sequential ignition/injection later this year (which will kick major ass). In the mean time, since the Busa engine won't need MS until June/July or so, we're gonna install it in my Neon so we get a better feel for how to tune and play with some stuff.

Chassis will be built over spring break (April 1-April 7), steel has already been ordered, so far it's at around $1000 for the steel for just the chassis as pictured above (plus some more braces we decided are necessary from our mockup).

More pics to come when I get them on the computer.

Did he?

All I ever saw was him asking where to buy a motor.

Ya it's almost time for my summer trim, I'll have to get my sister to do that, she owes me one for replacing the wheel bearing on her Stratus in our parking lot

Tonight me and Adam are going up to his place to get his dad's garage set-up, pick up the welder and steel, and more than likely get loaded. Hopefully his younger sister is there, she's fricken cute (and legal lol). :)

Lol, I don't go after the high school chicks on purpose. I just accidentally make out with some on occasion at house parties.

Well we got the frame jig built and our steel hasn't come in yet as we had to order it from some other source last week cuz the dumbass we ordered it from the first time took 3 weeks to tell us he couldn't get it. It'll be here tomorrow so we won't get much done with that :(

We did build a solid passenger side mount for my Neon that eliminates the Stratus bracket, toomanyneons adapter, and the side motor mount on the car. It's pretty sweet. :)
