Heads almost off.

Everything is out of the head even the bolts.

I gotta take the passenger side motor mount off to get the idler pulley off. It's mounted to the head and behind it is the rear timing cover which runs along the whole side of the motor.

I didn't have a spare jackstand to use because my buddies car was one them when we were making him an exhaust.
So tomorrow head will be off and i'll be able to see if everything looks good.

Got the head off today. I didn't touch it for the last 7 days because of the bricks and dream cruise.

Tomorrow i'm going to check and see if the valves are good. Probably start porting the intake and a little on the head while i'm waiting for parts or money for parts.

Finally went and bought the MLS Felpro head gasket, Felpro head bolts, and a timing belt for the Neon. Now time to get the 2.0 cams, pt lashers, and 2.7 v6 rockers.

Painted the engine bay and scrapped the flaking paint off the motor. Also cleaned the surface on the motor.

Picked this color for the cam gears, valve cover, master cylinder, and maybe some other little things.

Also doing this to the same things painted this color. I think i did a bad job. I used some craft paint for metal and such and a zip tie. thats all i had at the time.

careful on how much you deck the head. the valves can, only barely can, sometimes strike the piston. the cr may not go that high, but if its right, damn thats good. i'd start looking into cams, not much sense to get higher cr, and fix up the ports, just to have stock cams imo. BUT, hey ya dont have to. it will run just fine on the stock bump sticks.
It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom!

Yeah i have decided not to go that much with a stock bottom end with unknown miles.

I'm going to remove the shim which good for roughly .5 Cr point. and then taking .010" off the head. I should be at 9.8:1 - 10:1 CR which is fine.

I'm also going to the 2.0 intake cam, and a 420a intake cam as my exhaust cam. I don't know how yet, because i need to retard the 420a cam 5* or it won't run as good. I don't have the money to buy after market adjustable cam gears.
