You do know you can just cycle the key three times and the sel flash codes at you and you can look those up to help figure it out....

pull out your pre cat O2 out, then fire the car up, if it run stronger then you should replace the cat.... its plugged.

unplugging sensors will just put the car into limp mode.

the cat was removed before i got the car. The pre cat o2 is still there though. Also my CEL has been unplugged or something. The light doesn't light up.

My only guess on it's running issue is timing, so i have to check it and re time it.

Well, i couldn't get the crank pulley off so tomorrow me and my buddy are going to do it. He has a crank pulley puller and has changed the timing belt and tension on a 2.4 pt cruiser which i'm guessing is sorta alike.

I'm thinking about getting SRT4 timing belt kit from autozone or something, or is it not worth it?

I've heard people say to swap to the srt4 timing belt kit and stuff but is it worth it on a basically stock 2.4? and what is the benefit?

If the car is not turbo i wouldnt bother with the srt kit, but the motors are about the same. so timing should be the same on the two.

Yeah, i'm just going to run the current belt and stuff until i swap the 2.0 cams and such in. Then i'll go with an srt4 timing belt kit since it's the same price as a factory 2.4 stratus timing belt kit.

On the other hand, i checked the timing today. It was dead on. All the sensors are working and i have good fuel pressure...

We did a leak down test. Turned out bad  If you put pressure in the 3rd cylinder, air would leak out of the 4th cylinder plug hole. and other shit happen. So i need to change a head gasket and hope none of my valves are burnt. My buddy changed the head gasket, timing belt, and heads on 2 2.4s and both had burnt exhaust valves on the 2nd and third cylinder. So i'm going to pull the head tomorrow. Lets hope all i need to do is a headgasket. If not then i'll have to figure out what i want to do.

Is there anything cheap i could do to add a little bit of power while i have the head off? like head swap or something?

Ok so, as of right now this is the plan/list.

Engine Pro Head bolts
Ebay MLS head gasket kit
2.0 DOHC intake cam
420a intake cam for the exhaust
Pt Cruiser valve train
2.7 rockers
*Maybe head milled
*Maybe self port and polish head ports
*Maybe self port and polish intake

I would like this running and driving by the woodward dream cruise.
i plan on getting everything from the junk yard but the head bolts and gasket kit.

I don't really want to spend more then $200 on it. maybe $300 max.

I'm really looking forward to see how it runs after it's back together with the 58psi fpr and ford 302 injectors.

Just get a set of head bolts by felpro from autozone or local parts store. They are like 12 dollars, but are torque-to-yield, so one time use only.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FEL-PRO-ES-7102 ... 3f0aaf0a9f

and a felpro head gasket

Autozone doesn't have any in stock around me and cost $25.

So after researching alot i have found some good info.

I'm going to see how much it will be to have the head milled .020-.030 and remove the middle layer of the MLS head gasket. Tons of people have ran this setup on 2.0/2.4s with no problem for years and 40-50k miles. Even after hot lapping it at a drag strip or over heating. So i'm going to try it.

Here are some links i was reading. Interesting stuff to read. I may pick up another head and attempt this but i don't want to try it on my head and fuck something up. I may smoothen up the intake ports on the head and maybe a little more on the exhaust.

i already run 93 anyway. I guess the 2.4 has 9.4:1 CR factory.
Mattdog: You get what half a point of compression by removing the middle layer? Theory is that 0.01" off the head nets about 0.25 point of compression.

UptownSport: Here's my measurements: (Fel-Pro)
So .030" milled and .023" from the middle layer removed=.053"

so .053" of the head with a 9.4:1 CR would technically raise the CR to 10.5:1 or so if me and my dad did the math right.

it actually came out as 10.725:1 but i don't think it would actually add that much, so i just rounded down to 10.5:1

either way that's pretty high CR for an N/A 2.4

From reading the link i posted, people have made 150-160whp with 2.0 with basic bolt ons (CAI, Header, Exhaust, and such) with .020-.030 off the head and the middle layer removed.

So just guesstimating here, the 2.4 makes 150hp factory 167tq and the 2.0 DOHC makes 150hp and 13? tq.

So the 2.4 with the 2.0 intake, 2.0 vw cai, 2.0 dohc intake cam, possibly 420a intake/exhaust cam (if i can find an adjustable cam gear used for cheap) OBXR LTH, custom exhaust, PS/AC delete, and 10.5:1 CR should atleast make 150-160whp or more.
