in with the new...finally

Post by chris97dohc » Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:20 pm

out with the old happened A WHILE AGO. iv been building a new 2.0 dohc for about 1 1/2 months now. the reason it took so long was bc of the low income. i gradually aquired all of the parts for the build. but while i was picking parts i tried my best to get what performance parts i could with what money i had. today i finally put the oil pan on completing the motor (as much as i could while its out of the car anyway). i hadnt thought of making a project log until now so sorry no pics of the motor build, just the finished motor. ill do my best to keep updating all the way up to first start up.

my latest accumilation of blood, sweat, and yes... a couple tears (only bc i got something in my eye) haha

worked all day puttin her in. still got a lot of work to do. but i took a big chunk out today.
-clutch installed
-engine bolted to transmission
-alternator installed
-passenger side mount installed
-starter installed
-intake manifold installed
-fuel rail and injectors installed
-most of the wiring harness connected
and yes i lifted the engine with just 2 10mm ehxaust bolts. done it many times. hasnt failed yet.

the blue you see on the flywheel is where i marked it and the clutch so it would be easy to aligne to 2 during installation since the clutch only goes on 1 way.

whats left that i can think of:
-main pulley
-alternator belt
-exhaust header to down pipe
-throttle body
-some kind of intake (i might make one)
-switch out factory muffler with the dynomax
-oil presure guage (when it gets here)
-air/fuel ration guage (also when it gets here)
-magnetic oil drain plug (another when it gets here)
-radiator
-radiator fan
-find a way to secure the battery in the trunk

and thats all i can think of off the top of my head

got pretty much everything done today. only things left to do are radiator fan, air intake, and the oil presure guage and a/f ratio guage when they get here.

finally swithed out the mufflers

couldnt find a decent looking tip that would fit over the elbow on the muffler exit. so for now the elbow will be the exhaust tip. i cant decide if its sticking out too far or not.

i like everything except the intake, i think it needs to be blue, and a cold air, instead of a red warm air. or hot air. more pics of the whole car?

the intake is one i used a while back. being that it cost me nothing since i already had it, its the cheapest. so im using that until i can get a little more money in my pocket. but as far as air temp goes, idk what it picks up bc i hav a functional hood scoop (yea i kno, ricy) that should be pushing cold air to it but it is sitting directly over an unwrapped header.

ill take more pics of the car after its clean and running its been sitting in a dirt driveway for almost 2 months so its not pretty.

i might put a video up of the first start as well.

ok you guys i finally got the video up. no leaks this time but for some reason it was idling around 1100 vs around 900 on a warm day. since the first start its idled right at 900. i uglied up my pretty valve cover from putting the motor in then taking it back out and putting it back in again. in the video i titled this first start attempt 2 because obviously its already been started before but i had to go back in it bc of the oil leak and i put fresh rod and main bearings in. so i coundted this time as the first start up. and so you guys kno, the air intake has already been changed. now it sits where the battery box wouldnv been.
