1996 Coupe MTX

Post by Archametes » Sat Feb 24, 2007 12:11 am

Ok, I originally had a 98 sedan but the kid up the road and I swapped cars. He has kids and wanted the 4 door and I prefered the 2 door anyway. I think I lucked out better though as this one already has a decent clutch, aftermarket tails, Halo fronts, a Blitz body kit minus the skirts, Z3 fenders, a CAI, a short shifter, and a reasonable aftermarket muffler set up. I know this thing DRASTICALLY needs a bath but it was half eaten by a snow drift under a tree...friggin' birds....

Pleas fell free to give suggestions as to where to start and anything I may have forgotten....

My plans are as follows.....

1. Custom exhaust out the driverside in front of the rear wheel, DONE
2. Hahn Race Craft turbo kit w/ intercooler, DONE
3. Viper Front cover,
4. 1.5 drop suspension DONE
5. Unorthodox Racing Underdrive pulley,
6. Adjustable Cam gear,
7. Racing seats w/ 4 point harness,
8. MOMO steering wheel, DONE
9. Airbag delete tray for Pass. side ( obviously ), ALMOST DONE
10. 16" Rims with BFGoodrich Traction T/A's V rated ( size?)
11. ATX Throttle body,
12. A new intake manifold ( where can i get one? )
13. Diamond Clear Headlights or just mount 55W foglights in place of the Halo low beams.... DONE
14. I don't know whether I want to replace the bottom end and have the head ported or do it to a 2.4L and then put that in.... It'll probably cost the same roughly but the amount of work to swap the motors may not justify it.... any suggestions?

1. Don't bother, it will be ungodly loud.
2. Go for it, although a SRT turbo setup will be a lot cheaper.
3. Never heard of it. Go for the Wings West.
4. Ksports or if you decide just springs go with Koni's and Mopar High Rates.
5. Yes
6. AEM, Fidanza, or Unorthodox
7. Look at some SRT seats. If not check out the Corbeaus on Moderns site.
8. Stick with the stock wheel.
9. I guess. Go with the AF/X. There's one forsale right now on the .org.
10. Your choice.
11. With all the other stuff you better go with a 60mm TB. Get a Jeep TB or if you want to spend money go with the Modern.
12. Talk to All Motor Mike on the .org
13. Depos
14. If you want torque, go 2.4, if not go 2.0. :P

ok, I took off the body kit, swapped out the headlights for a set of projectors I found at the junkyard, and started painting some of my interior pieces. Now all I need is to find a rear bumper that in good shape and i'll be all set...

Well so far I took off the body kit and swapped out the healights for a set of DEPO's. I opened up the cat and will soon be adding a Pacesetter dual exhaust. I've started to paint some of the interior stuff and some exterior stuff. The problem is time and what to do next...I also now have a Turbo that I got for free but I need to rebuild it...

Ok tomorrow I am changing out the Thermostat, installing a solid bobble strut, vavle cover gasket and all the others in the kit, or if absolutly need be swap the head. I can't wait to feel the diference with the bobble strut though... oh yeah and also putting the foglights on.

UPDATE: Thermostat, valve cover gasket, and bobble strut DONE

I didn't have time for the fog lights. I got a really good condition head from the J/Y off a 96 with only 46,000 on it. If I had more money I would've grabbed the whole motor. I paid $35 for the head and the whole motor would've been $135... oh well if it's still there when I get paid again who knows....

I notice ALOT of vibration now with the bobble strut in but I'm not sure I tightened it enough though.... I'll post more as things commence....

OK, I got the fog lights on and finally fixed the Bobble strut vibration. I also purchased a turbo kit from Alpinestar, which included the following: Turbo, intercooler, fuel injectors, RRFPR, voltage stabilizer, BOV, and all nec. hardware. The only thing I need to get is the lines and fittings for the oil and coolant... Then that will be another weekend project. I also ordered a set of K-Sport lowering springs today. So I'll try to get picks of all this stuff up when I can but in the meantime you can see some of them at my car domain page (link in sig). Thanks for looking and again any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
