Import Wars 2011, Great Lakes Dragaway, SE WI
Dates have been released:
April 17
May 22
June 12
July 17
August 21
September 11
October 16
All races are on sundays. Gates generally open around 7 or 8 am. Time trials start around 10 am. Eliminations start between 1 and 2 pm.
Bracket style racing for cars that run 13.00 and slower. There are also heads up classes for faster cars. They may change up some classes this year so I'll post when I find out.
Chances to win money. I got probably $500 last year in winnings in 5 races. Basically covered gas, entry fees, and food. If you wanna make a profit while racing, you need to rethink that idea.
Also has season long points totals. Don't really win much yet, used to get trophies. But bragging rights are cool. Most of the people are regulars so there's competition all year with same people.
Last year was fun, several neons showed up for a few races. Billy96greon and danielsslowblue99rt placed 2nd and 3rd for season in the Super Street class (15.00 and slower). I won Super Mod class (13.00-14.99). Let's get some more neons out there!
I plan on going sometime early april to get some practice in and maybe dial in a new setup. First week in april is usually opening weekend and they have cheaper racing. I'll post up more info when I figure it out.
Anybody that is interested, feel free to pm me.
Excuses that won't fly for not going:
1. My car is stock/slow/automatic, etc. I don't care, there's always slow cars there and its also bracket racing. I've gone against cars that were 3 seconds slower than me. It can be rather difficult racing against a much slowr car because you gotta wait like 3 seconds to go and that's how people screw up.
2. I've never been racing. Last year 6 people showed up in a group that had never raced. Several came back for most of the races. Everyone had a first time at the track. Most of them screwed up and felt retarded. I staged my back tires first time I went. Oh well. I'll be more than happy to explain and show anybody what they need to do.
3. I've never bracket raced. Same as number 2. I can explain it.
4. I suck at racing/bracket racing. Ask dan and billy, most people there also suck at it. Can't get better without practicing.
5. I don't want to break anything. If you wanna race, stuff may break. I trailer my car to track and bring tools and extra parts like axles. If car breaks, we can fix it. If not, we can tow it home.

I'll let that one slide lol. I'll be racing at N2k11 as well. This is just a good competition for sport compacts. I don't think any other track in the midwest does a season long points series for slower cars. Maybe a handful in the country do. It's a blast.

Everyone always says that but we have one here and less cars show up than you'd expect. It dropped off a bit last year, which is why they combined the slower classes into one, hopefully there will be more rounds to win now. Sometimes only 4-5 cars would show up for a class and it would be no fun.19blockhead72 wrote:I wish the had events like that in our area.
Should be better this year I hope, we had several Neons come out last year from around Madison, shooting for more this year.

Waiting patiently (IE checking every few hours) for this year's schedule so I can start planning the rest of my summer. Gotta make a trip to Texas to visit Ed Peters sometime before June and have a Neon meet at my place in April, among other things non-Neon related.

Yup, it's a lot more fun with 12+ cars in each class than when there are 4.
