drag raced new motor on 1/8th strip

Post by chris97dohc » Mon Sep 14, 2009 8:12 pm

built a new motor for my car. drag raced it the other day on a 1/8th mile strip. someone tell me whats going on here.

block bored .040 over, wiseco 10.5:1 pistons, eagle rods, crane 16 cams, mid length header, ported intake manifold, no cat, dynomax muffler, 55mm throttel body, unfortunately a hot air intake, tuning with apexi neo. (not sure where my air fuel is bc i dont have a wide band but no codes for fuel rich or lean).

first go, broke traction in second and bounced off the rev limiter so i eased on down the track.

second go i let some air out the tires to 27 psi (normal street tires). got better traction but was still slow at 10.6 second 8th mile.

3rd go was same as numbe 2.

i got enough power to break traction in second but not enough to get a decent time?

What was your 60'? That plays a HUGE role in your times. My 98 runs 15.0's on street tires with 2.3 60's, and will run 14.6's on drag radials with a 2.0 60'. Also, what was your trap?

With the power you have, you can get a 1.9 on slicks or drag radials. On street tires, 2.1-2.2 is a decent time. Work on that and you'll be fine. You can't just go hammer down out of the hole, you gotta slip the clutch out, and roll into the gas. When you go to 2nd you'll be able to get on it harder.

Get slicks, they'll help you in the long run.
