Help me have my lowering springs made !

Post by uta_flyinghigh » Fri Feb 01, 2008 5:36 am

So I have sourced a company (incidentally at walking distance of my office) that can make custom-made springs (not bedsprings).

http://www.tunisieressorts.com.tn/eng/r ... ession.htm

I need to supply the following info and voilà ! custom-made springs for half the price of Pro Kits :-) :

Type of springs : Progressive/Linear

Spring diameter front/rear

Spring length front/rear

Spring rate front/rear

Color

We're in a metric country btw :-)

It's not as simple as finding diameter, the diameters change through the length of the spring, and the ends need to be cut in the right place for them to sit in the perches correctly. The length you want the spring will depend on how low you want it to be and what spring rate you want.

Wait, do you mean the diameter of the coil or the diameter of the steel used to make it?

Honestly I feel that unless these are VERY cheap it is more hassle than it is worth. It seems like there are too many variables and not enough knowledge to justify the cost of something that may not turn out exactly right.

Sorry for the vagueness, I meant the diameter of the steel used to make it.

The price for 4 custom-made springs is roughly $120.

And that's exactly the conclusion I came to after driving a Peugeot 306 with springs made in Tunisia.

The drive went like this :
Zoooommmm...*OW*speed bump...*OW*pothole...zooommmm...*OW * raised manhole cover...etc.

I'm in IAH (read:modernperformance) in two weeks, I can wait that long.
