How do i drain my MTX tranny fluid?

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

how convenient..
to me, it seems that GL-5 would be better?

For certain applications it is.

But that application is not manual transmissions.

Very true. The factory-fill Mopar fluid (MS.9417) is a GL4 gear oil with a viscosity equivalent to a 30w motor oil.

Many people have made the mistake of putting GL5 75w90 in the neon MTX, this is nothing new. It usually makes the trans harder to shift at higher RPM and when cold. When you get into using fluids that are the wrong viscosity, the amount of time it takes the synchros to slow down or speed up changes. This is true weather you use a fluid that is too thick or one that is too thin.

I believe that if 75w90 GL5 was acceptable for use in the T-350, Chrysler would have used it as the factory fill. Its a lot cheaper than the MS.9417 fluid. I find it very hard to believe that the neon FSM does not mention the MS.9417 fluid, especially since it was developed for this application.

Hopefully next week i can change it, I dont run the car at all really right now. Just moving it out of the way of the garage door when needed lol

It's a matter of the makeup of the additives.

Go and do some research on it, you will walk away with more info than just asking someone.

something to do with allowing the syncros to slow down and speed up properly..
