SRT4 turbo 99 R/T Leans out in top end help!!!!

Post by 1nastyR/t » Sun Aug 28, 2011 1:20 pm

I just srt4 turbod my 99 r/t sedan w/forged internals, .050 overbore, crane #16 grind cams, mopar computer, 3" srt4 downpipe to full 3" exhaust. Completely stock fuel system. It runs great nice and rich if i roll into the throttle but if i just floor it it leans out to 16+! What can i do to correct this, my boost controller is at 3psi.

Please constructive criticism only! Thanks y'all

well i know when you do an srt-4 swap you need either bigger injectors or a higher fuel preasure regulator. so i would say maybe one of those

Seriously? Completely stock? No rising rate regulator? If so, you're missing a large piece of what you need.

Run ZERO boost, that's how. The stock PCM can't "read" boost and can't add fuel to match boost.

Sell the mopar computer, put the stocker back in, I'll sell you my BEGI RRFPR, put that on, and then look into buying some bigger injectors

walbro 255 fuel pump, mopar 58psi regulator, and srt4 stage 1 injectors w/stock srt4 fuel rail will this be sufficient. How much boost can i run? Also i installed the stock pcm back in.

I already have the srt4 injectors and fuel rail just not installed.

no. You are going the wrong way and do not understand. If you are going to use a PCM to control your fuel, you MUST increaese fuel pressure directly proportional to how much boost it is making at any given time. If you run what you wrote, it will be very rich at all times except when it starts to make boost. By the time it starts making about 4 or 5 psi of boost it will be lean. As it makes more boost it will get leaner and leaner. The PCM can't read boost so it can't calculate the need for more fuel as it makes more boost. You HAVE to use a rising rate regulator if you are going to let the PCM control the fuel injectors. People new to turbos on a Neon often make this mistake.

@jeffb2, ok thanks for the info. Can i just use the schrader valve that's on the fuel rail already and remove the stem and route it back using like a AN conversion on it to the tank via spoolboy mod?

So how's this setup
RRFPR
bigger injectors
walbro fuel pump

will that be all i need?

This entire thing has been about using the PCM to control the fuel injectors. Using anything else to control fuel and you suddenly have less parts to add to make it run right. But then you also have to do the programming to set the A/F ratio under ALL driving conditions.

Yes, you can pull the valve out of the fuel rail to use for a variety of purposes. One of which can be a return line fitting. Hahn used to do it that way at one time and other people have done it on their own as well.
