spark plug gaskets

this may be the dumbist ? on here but what way do the spark plug gaskets go in? i put them in the opposite way of this http://img.eautopartscatalog.com/live/W ... 461MAH.JPG
and im getting oil in my tubes. i put them in like thist because thats how they were when i got them. i really need to knoe cuz my 1st cyl spark plug was dripping oil when i took it out and i think may car is misfireing because of it. any help would be much appeciated.

I always slide them on the very top of the tubes and then install the valve cover. I think I put them on the other way but I'd have to have it in my hand to verify.

If you just stick them to the bottom of the valve cover, there is a good chance they won't wrap around the tube and seal.

which motor do you have? it should go in the valve cover.
It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom!

They were mounted in the valve cover of my 96 SOHC.
