sohc build!

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons? just anything that is generally "engine" specific.

Burns rubber 1-3? You spin 3rd or chirp it?

This is probably you're best bet.
Mild build SOHC will put you ahead of most b16's and b18 VTECs. <---- N/A

I still think 2.4 is a better bang for buck. After thinking about it,its kinda what im looking for
If everything seems to be in control, you're not going fast enough.

:bs2:

Put your milled sohc head on stock bottom end against a 2.4 with milled stock head and crane 18's and you'll lose bad.

You're probably slipping the clutch too much when you shift. When I was first learning how to drive my car and getting used to shifting it performance style, I would confuse some spinning in 2nd as more power, when in fact, I was slipping the clutch too much. After I shifted better, it would only chirp them in 2nd. It wouldn't chirp or anything in 3rd at all. Almost stock DOHC 1st gen.

Yup. If I wanted to spin the tires, I can dump the clutch in 1st, spin the shit out of 1st and then shift to 2nd and spin the shit out of 2nd, eventually you WILL grip in 2nd gear. while actually accelerating, 3rd gear might only chirp in a 180whp+ neon.
But for accelerating efficiently, the hardest part is taking off from a dig without bogging or spinning, IMO clutch see's the most use (Wear) from this but it could mean a noticeable gain or loss in your Drag time.

just read the thread and thought i would chime in some.

i have a 2.4 neon as well and its a total blast. im still not sure but im assuming its the 3.94 tranny because its from a 99RT neon. but let me think what all is done to mine........

head shaved .035
under drive pully
amm no 90 lower intake manifold
hand ported upper intake manifold
cat still on
muffler missing
stock 2.0 cams
balance chain removed
99RT pcm as well
RT wheels
mild weight reduction
modern performance clutch

and i know theres something im missing i just cant think of but long story short it will easily roast off tires in first gear, and can continue in second sometimes but usually it just chirps them.

i got a few videos and stuff if you want to see them man.

go to youtube and search 08kgraves. you should find my page and theres a few videos there.
