swap or build?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons? just anything that is generally "engine" specific.

swap or build?

Post by lilwhteneon » Wed Jun 01, 2011 8:52 pm

Need some more power out of my neon.

But, i dont know what to do with it.

My car currently has a SOHC in it with basic bolt ons. what mods can i do to make it faster?

Also, Seen some 2.0 dohc swaps done, just dont know the difficulty level or how long it would it would take to do.

Would like to make it an auto-x car.

Anyone got some 2 cents?

2.0 DOHC swap isn't hard at all. In fact it's just as easy to do a 2.4 DOHC swap. I would go for the latter honestly if you want more power. The 2.4 is a great platform for power and with basic bolt ons will be really really fun in your coupe.

agree so far. 2.4 will be better, but as in my experience, building a turbo isnt as easy as everyone says. but a high compr n/a will seam to be alot of fun.

Not if you are wanting to autox. If you want to get serious in autox find a class you want to run in and build your car accordingly, like FSP or STS. If you 2.4 swap your car you will be in a class with 400-500hp Evos and Sti's among many other cars that will smoke your ass. If you want to do it for fun swap away.

With the right suspension mods you could keep up with them. I saw a Camaro that had very little horsepower and just had suspension modifications and it pulled past STis and EVOs in the corners every time.

2.4 is a good idea. I'm lucky to get a SRT4 2.4L, complete engine for my swap. And for cheap!
