timing belt tensioner failure?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons? just anything that is generally "engine" specific.

Either that or the bolts on the tensioner weren't torqued properly and it eventually worked its way down with the pressure of the plunger against the pulley. They are known to fail though. Rip it apart first. Why guess about buying parts?

as a rule of thumb i have always replaced the tensioner with the tbelt set and water pump, saves alot of potential problems.

i replaced the tensioner when i built the motor. but the problem ended up being the bolt that the pulley pivots on broke at the block. so im tryin to find a mechanical type tensioner, 1 so i wont hav to worry about using a tap and die to get the rest of the bolt out the block and 2 bc i here its a lot more reliable.
