balance shafts?
So in a couple of weeks when I change my oil pan gasket I thought I would take out the balance shaft (s). How hard is it and do you think a 15 year old could do it?

while on topic, how much power to you lose at high rpm without them, and how far does your powerband drop? i took my 2.0 to 7500 all the time and im unsure about it with my 2.4. its been fully rebuilt with p&p, 2.0 cams, and soon an indy intake. or can it perform at the same speeds as the 2.0 but just make more noise and vibrations?

You sound as though you'd be better suited for a honda. The power band does not end where you want it to, unless you plan on standalone with some large (#24 and up) cams. Even with my #16, peak tq tapped a little over 7k, and really that is fine. The 2.4L as it sits adds approximately 30lbs, which is a decent increase. You are at max tq around 2500, so revving to 8k to get max tq is not necessary. This is one reason why some2.4L swap end up with spun bearings.domesticated wrote:why not, where should i expect my power band to be at then, plus i like shifting at 35-65-95-120

im ok with 7k, when i do the turbo ill swap to a 3.55, but pullin a gear longer is better and i know the powerband doesnt end wherever. my neon hit 142 @ 6200 but for first and second i still took it up to 7500 to help the 0-60. im doin the swap here in the next month, ill have it dynoed and set my shifts where they need to be, i know how to treat my car!

With a post like this, it seems you treat your car like you want to. You do not know that difference between the 2.0L and 2.4L, plus a turbo, means your blow the engine before years end. Take some advice. Pushing your car to it max in every shift is pointless and juvenile. Grow up or deal with the aftermath.
