What header should I buy??

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons? just anything that is generally "engine" specific.

What header should I buy??

Post by NeonTuning » Tue Dec 11, 2007 6:02 am

Well... I am thinking about buying a header.

Wich one is good for street use, and also good quality?

And it is possible to just remove the cat without having to do anything to the motor management system right? Just remove it, put a tube in place for it, done... right??

I allready want to thank you guys for the respons :)

Cheerz!

actually a long tube is typically a low rpm head, mid is mid range and short is for a high rpm engine, just like runners on an intake manifold

as far as the cat is concerned im sure you've already seen my post here-

really? hmm.... most of the engines ive dealt with have picked up more low end, but im used to dealing wiht larger engines, this is prolly one of the smallest non-exotic engine ive ever dealt with outside of a motorcycle

guess i'll have to try a few things with this neon then :D

OMG where does this bullshit keep coming from

I have a short tube header, it don't do shit,

this was obviously started by some ricer who wanted to justify being a cheap-ass and buying a short header

wtf? i dont know shit about neons, im used to working on older engines and engines that make a lot more power....

gonna hold it against me because i dont know much about headers in general let alone 4cyl's? (theory ive always held is the same as intake runner length design) past couple years of my life have been almost completely dedicated to the GM 60 degree v6, before that it was all big v8's and inline 6's along with motorcycles.... i know how to design an exhaust (simple really, just flow vs. velocity) but with a header i dont know much.... whats your point? i dont know ideal runner length for a 2.0 dohc, do you? what about tubing size? collector volume?

im not hear to start a fight but you dont have to come off as an ass because obviously i dont know much at all about neons, if you wish to educate me im willing to learn but im not new to high performance engine by any means...

Get a long tube, they perform better than a stock/short tube header on ALL rpm ranges. But generally a shorter tube header SHOULD do better at high rpms but it also has a lot to do with the collector. On Neons, just use a long tube cuz nobody makes headers "right" for Neons anyways.

Typically, long tube small primary headers increase low end torque on most engines. Most of the long tube headers available for the neon have larger primaries (for a small engine), which will make it tend to favor high RPM. Its not like you will loose all bottom end power.
