want to do a simple engine and trany swap

Post by white1stgen » Wed Sep 21, 2011 1:03 pm

hello everyone

forgive me if i put this in the wrong spot, dont really know much about neons, im a honda guy but my wife has a 96 coupe and the engine n trany is gonna need replacing soon. i saw already that a few different engines can be swaped out and i was thinking about putting the pt non turbo engine in it but i couldnt find anything else about the swap so my question is, is there any simple swaps that dont require too much moddification? and is there any automatic trany swaps for the 1st gen neon. i know i can just get an engine from a sohc or dohc 1st gen neon and trany and will swap in fine but the problem is finding them where im from. the reason i want to go with the pt cruiser is because thats easier for me to come across. would the pt cruiser auto trany bolt up in the engine bay? thanks. all and any help will be greatly appreciated. thank again.

they are about all the same as far as the 2.4 goes. i cant get the link at this moment, but neons.org has all the info on swapping an n/a 2.4 into a 1gen neon. but theres issues with crossing years and stuff. search on "the big" org and you will find more about it.

The big org is the place to go for information like this. It's not very hard to do. For transmissions though, just keep the neon's transmission. Unless you want a 5 speed, then get a 5 speed from a neon and put it in. Make sure it's a 1gn transmission though.

=D Lol no problem. Good luck with the swap. It's not extremely difficult, and I'm sure you can handle it fine.

Hey it's alright if we spoon. It's just over the internet. And no, we're not talking about honda parts ;)
