2.4 Swap

Post by TomZ » Sun Mar 04, 2007 10:01 am

** If this needs to go in the Engine Swap Forum, so be it. I'm looking for info, nothing to add....yet.

I just made a deal on a '98 Stratus 2.4 and some new Ford Motorsport injectors. I've read a bunch of stuff on the .org about the swap (injector wiring, coil pack wiring, cam timing, mounts ect).

I'll change out the waterpump, timing belt and tensioner, coil pack, clutch (PT? Love the PT clutch on my '02), rear main seal etc.

Anyone that has input, or wants to help, lol, feel free.

I'm hoping to pick up the engine next weekend.

Torque will be my new bestest friend

The ACR. She's running well now, but with 120K plus, a little freshening up is warranted. A N/A 2.4 looks like a simple way to upgrade. I've got a MP computer comming, and a 3.0 intake to make a CAI on hand. I've got a replacement center dash enroute from Riddler, and picked up a RR tail lght assembly. I'm restoring/modifying the battery box, and troubleshooting the cruise control system. Trunk carpet is out to dry and stock windshield washer nozzles are on hand. I'd like to upgrade to the yellow Koni's but $850 is steep. I need to find a good/reasonable place/person to repaint in the OE color. I'd like to re-do the stripes in paint, then clearcoat. Oh yeah, I picked up a 2 GN center console, shifter boot and e-brake handle too.

Let me know when you are going to work on this. I'd like to help out some if I can. Plus I need to get you those tires in case we have anymore snow.

That would be great Matt. I should be picking up the engine this weekend. I've held off getting the other big ticket items until I have it in hand. I'll get those tires this weekend too!

IIRC from my reading it's just the exhaust cam. The part of the cam swap I'm not clear on is the hole for the Cam Position Sensor. I don't know how to accurately index the new hole exactly 90 degrees different, or how to set the CPS minus the nipple exactly 90 degrees off and secure it .

You can use the 2.0 intake cam, you just gotta rotate the magnet 90 degrees clockwise. Not 100% sure on how to secure it, jb weld or something maybe. I'll figure that out soon enough.

Mine? Not 100% sure where I wanna go yet, depends on a few things. If I go boost, it won't be this year for sure. But I got some stuff I'll be doing this spring:

MS install (it's here just gotta put it together and in the car)
New head (wanna take .040" off), has mopar performance lifters and pt rockers, I got Crower springs waiting to go in. I want some bigger cams, 18's or 22's but will stick with the 2.0 cams for now
I'll make an intake manifold sometime this spring in metals class, we're playing with tig welders now.
Bigass tb from a Mustang or Camaro or something, this 52mm is killing it, you can hear it sucking air in
Maybe some nitrous too.

I'd like to hit high 13's this year on motor, and if I get spray, I'd like to hit 12.9. Right now I should be at 14.7 with the little it has done (I'll see on Saturday).

It's a work in progress, still obtaining parts. Check out my project log. How about a Central Ohio, 2.4 swapped, 1GN meet? Lol. I hope to be done long before the Nats. The 2nd annual Mopar Nats Neonite Cookout will be at my house again.
