2.4 SOHC?
Yeah I've read that link before, show me proof of one. Several other people I've talked to also say they never made one, people like Jeff Ball.
Just browsed through Rock Auto's online catalog at the Liberties and Wranglers and all the 2.4's were DOHC. Still call BS on it. If it was made, then why doesn't anybody use it and why do people that know their shit on the .org all say it wasn't made? I'll take the word of Jeff or Greg (who is a high-up Chrysler tech) over Wikipedia.

That's another option, it could be a 4g64 in disguise. I didn't notice any Mitsubishi stars anywhere because it would have those around the engine bay at least if it was a 4g64. Or perhaps a "Manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors" or some thing like "Manufactured for Chrysler by Mitsubishi." The 4g64 was also in the 2nd Gen Eclipse Spyder.DOHCRT wrote:The 2.4L SOHC EY7 engine can be found in 2-door 2nd gen Dodge Stratus models and 3rd gen Mitsubishi Eclipses. I do beleive the engine is built entirely buy Mitsubishi. Its a 4G64 when installed in a Mitsubishi. I am not aware of any other Chrysler-branded vehicles using this engine.

I read on a Mitsu forum awhile back that the 2.4 SOHC (4G64) has the exact same bottom end as the 2.4 DOHC. The head on the 4G64, just like the 420A, was made buy Mitsu for the Chrysler built block. I am not sure about the accuracy of what I read, but it was on a DSM website, and those guys know their motors.
Ya, I doubt all that stuff. 4G64 is nowhere near the same as the Chrysler blocks.

you're right. the 4g64 and 4g63 are swappable head/block combos. that's how you can have a 2.4 stroker hybrid in a DSM. so what I just said should crush any dreams of the Mitsubishi motors having anything to do with the Chrysler ones.chipdogg wrote:Ya, I doubt all that stuff. 4G64 is nowhere near the same as the Chrysler blocks.

afaik the liberty had a 2.4 dohc as did the wrangler.
the stratus and the eclipse were the only ones to carry the 2.4 sohc, which that stratus was basically a mitsu anyways.
i had been pondering doing a 2.4 sohc in my 2gn so that i could retain the oem computer for emissions reasons, and MS it all other times. could a timing belt from the 2.4 SOHC mistubishi be used with a pt short block and a mag head?
