2nd gen intake manifold on dohc head

Post by chris97dohc » Sat Jul 18, 2009 5:18 pm

is it possible to make a 2nd gen or magnum intake manifold work on a dohc head?

swapping a sohc intake onto a dohc is only downgrading

easy 90 degree delete and longer runners for better low end torque.

you would have to redrill the mounting holes for it also, its a pita. just take the 90 out of the dohc manifold, better performance

i dont mind doing the porting and the redrilling. the longer runners are worth more to me than just the 90 degree delete on the dohc manifold.

That's a horrible idea. The lousy plastic SOHC manifold wont give you any noticeable gains at any RPM. If you really think you need a long runner intake manifold, a stratus 2.4 DOHC manifold will bolt up to your 2.0 DOHC head.

He's talking about a magnum intake manifold. The only problem is the ports on the magnum are smaller sideways than the DOHC intake port. There isn't enough meat in there to port it out.

Also, why is it that people put DOHC intake manifolds on SOHC cars? Because they work better. You want shorter intake runners on your car anyway. Also, you'd have to wire up the intake manifold to work like it does stock, with the butterfly valves opening at 5K.

Could just remove the butterflies, if the wiring setup is not desired. Seeing as the dohc flows more air than the sohc, it may not supply enough air before the butterflies open. Sell that intake to someone with an sohc, that really needs it. Then use those funds toward a more effective concept.

yea i sold it. but before i did me and my friend put it on his
(i dont have a motor in mine) dohc neon with the butterflies open. wasnt pretty. it made 117 at 5900 rpm and 113 ft pounds of torque at 3100 rpm. yea it was a waste of time, but it was fun.

those are TERRIBLE numbers for a dohc, even lower then it was stock

i kno this. thats why i said "it wasnt pretty." but i dont regret it. it wasnt permanent, just an experiment. and we had fun doing it. the way i see it, no matter how much hp and torque you have or dont have, at the end of the day its only worth it if its fun.

i dont find fun in making less hp in a car, more yes, but not less
