95 DOHC PCM
95 DOHC engine wiring harness
95 DOHC TPS
DOHC power steering high pressure line
DOHC power steering reservoir
DOHC hood (or modify SOHC hood to fit)

You can get by without getting the DOHC power steering stuff, but if you want it to look good get them.

You can use the harness from the SOHC, but you have to modify it to fit the DOHC.

Good luck finding one though. You HAVE to use a 95 harness due to the different plugs for the PCM. It's not that difficult to modify the SOHC harness to work with a DOHC. I did it on my NYG. Not much needed to be done really, I know for sure the coolant temp sensor plug needs to be extended to reach the passenger side of the head and maybe something else but not much.

And if you have the 97 harness already and you got the sensors on the DOHC, you could splice the connectors from the 97 harness onto the 95 harness for the sensors that don't transfer over but most of them will. You'll have to swap all the sensors from the SOHC to the DOHC that will go.

Yup. You can try using the 97 one if you want but I sure as hell ain't helping with that mess.

wouldnt i have to switch the pins over to the new style connectors to use the 97 ecu? ill just get a 95 dohc ecu from the local u-pull it. but i think im gonna go ahead with this idea and get the motor

Lol exactly. Not something that's very doable. Best to get new PCM.

Sorry if this question is drawn out and ridiculous but I think we are gonna run into this with my friends car.

He's got a 96 SOHC and he's putting on a 98 DOHC head from a stratus with the wiring harness & ECU from a 98 ACR Neon...

Is this not gonna work very well, and if so should he also try and just get a 95 DOHC ECU ?

If your changing over the wiring harness to 98 and ECU to 98 what is the problem? Where it plugs into the car (to give the gauge cluster its info and what not.....?) Is that what doesn't "plug-and play"?

Oh crap, do the SOHC pistons smack into the bottom of the DOHC head or something like that..... ? Is that why you said "add dohc pistons" or whatever?

Your swap should work just fine, main problem will be the radiator fan. 97-99 had a different style relay than the 96, but you can just run a switch. If it's a 96 car, go to the PDC (fuse box under hood) and find a pink/blue wire. All you have to do is ground that wire with the key "on" and it'll kick the fan on, and it uses the stock relay. That's how mine is currently and it works fine.

95 wiring harnesses are the only ones that won't work with other years, they have a completely different setup for plugs and such.

SOHC pistons will work just fine, that's what I'm doing tomorrow. 95 SOHC bottom end and DOHC head in my 96, don't have much for options at the moment lol.
