Go DOHC. SOHCs suck anyways.

I believe that if you put the DOHC head on SOHC block it will lower compression. but doable

If the DOHC engine is in good condition, why not swap it? You're going to have to buy a DOHC PCM. Also be aware that there are other things that don't fit to good with the DOHC engine. The power steering high pressure hose is slightly longer for DOHC equipped cars to accommodate the wider head, and the power steering reservoir is different from SOHC to DOHC. The wiring harness is also different, although you can modify the SOHC harness to fit.

If you do want to keep the SOHC, get a Magnum head to replace your bad head. I wouldn't put the DOHC head on the SOHC block because it will lower the compression ratio.

i if i want the r/t motor to last me awhile i gotta get it rebuilt it has bout 120ooo mi
i was going to put new rings an rod and main bearings in the bottom end and get new valve seals and a valve job done to the head.
i was going to also put a set of cams an valve springs to give it a lil bit more power but i dunno if the gains of power are going to be worth all the money where as i can keep building my sohc
for a rebuild with cams an valve springs a shop was going to completely redo an assemble the motor for about 1200 :?

I rebuilt my engine with 127k on it and there was not many signs of wear in it other than a bent rod lol.

Just because the DOHC engine has 120000 miles on it doesn't mean its bad. You may want to just tear it down some and inspect the main wear items.

My DOHC has 142000 miles on it and its turbocharged with factory internals. It still sounds great.
