Iceman air intake

Did you buy a part and think it was awesome, or did you think it was a piece of crap? Let everyone know here so we know not to buy the same product.

Iceman air intake

Post by fusion210 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 5:07 pm

I picked mine up used from a friend. Previously on my other neon I had a modded 3.0l intake.
This is the old blue one I sold, I now have a black one. The previous owner relocated the fresh air (vacuum) tube.

Fitment is great, I'll give it a 9/10 only because there isn't that much wiggle room for the tube/filter.

Nice seat of the pants feel, increase in engine noise, and it cleans up the engine bay. Installation is pretty easily done with simple hand tools.
IMO it sits up high enough that you won't suck in water unless you go through a very visibly deep pool of it. It has a sharp bend before entering the throttlebody and I want to say it's only 52mm where it connects to the throttlebody, seems like a bottleneck to me, for those with larger throttlebodies.

If you pick one up used it's a great buy, I guess they're all going to be used now though since they are discontinued.
I would probably make a 3.0l intake if I didn't already have the iceman, but at least the iceman will hold it's resale value.

Someone dynotested theirs on neons.org in a high horsepower setup. Gained 2whp before peak. The 3.0l tube was modded by adding a piece of 2.5" pipe between the bends. I wonder how my old one would compare.
2.5" pipe between the bends, 2.5" pipe inside where the ridges are, 2.5"->3" transition, 3" filter (lol free from a friend).

This is one of those rare parts where there is no contest; the Iceman is hands down the best CAI ever designed for the early Neons.
Sculpturally beautiful, it's a purpose built part that looks good and makes power.
If only all aftermarket parts could boast as much!
The only down side has been it's high cost, and now with it's discontinued status, it's rarity.
More Neons than sense.

it isn't the exterior that is key it was the inside the intake tube is extremely smooth on the inside, that would the only problem with making it out of something other than plastic injected mold

I heard the mold got lost in the huge fire Iceman had a few years back, hence no more production.

not to mention you'd get sued ... i'm sure there is a patent on the iceman.

You could copy it and then make a small change therefore making it urs ;)

Plus the later models came with a lame plastic battery tray, likely because the original metal ones were bad about corrosion, which seems to be common with battery boxes/trays.

All you have to do is find owners that have few laying around. I know many owners bought up extra ones near the end of production for this or that projects.
