so the alternator died in my neon today. It had a long life 320,800 miles. it was the original to the car and served it well. Ever since I got the car I always had all the lights dim and the blower motor would sound like it lost power at idle. my autometer gauge would drop to 12.7v and once I got to about 1300rpm it would always be right back on 14v. I'm sure my udp didn't help out much.
So my question is will an srt-4 alternator fit my 2.0l sohc. I know I'll have to change the regulator plug but physically will it fit? It looks like it would from online pictures, it has a four groove serpentine belt. And it produces 150 AMPS compared to the stock 90 Amps _________________ Need to buy Erebuni front bumper, Apexi avcr boost controller
I love my SOHC but I catch allot of crap for being one cam short, so I'm putting four cams under the hood of my neon

| if you are running an UD pulley then your alternator will never put out the rated power! have you thought about using an OVERDRIVE pulley n a stock replacement alternator first?? |

I could overdrive it but then I'd also have to buy an overdrive pully, and I did a little search and the only ones I came up with are alternator only with no power steering or a/c pully on them. I figured I may as well have upgraded it since I was buying one anyway, but I just got a reman stocker. The car always has dropped volts with the stock pcm, stock pully, and everything else stock, So I figure it wont hurt to go on forever like that. but if anyone knows if it will fit then that would be a great upgrade. _________________ Need to buy Erebuni front bumper, Apexi avcr boost controller

Please explain. Alternators do not have their max output at engine redline rpm. It just moves the output to a slightly higher engine rpm. _________________

would it come with the transmission already blown up? |

never said anything about max power, just the alternators rated output...
if the alternator is spinning slower then itll have a lower output! |

An alternator has a power curve like your engine. The factory replacement I got is rated at 90amp it came with a performance slip,
out put tested at 13.20V
Rpm is alternator rpm not engine rpm.
57A@1800RPM
70@2000RPM
105A@3000RPM
117A@4000RPM
123A@5000RPM
126A@6000RPM
Now a higher rated amp alternator would have a similar curve but it would start higher equaling more amps at a lower rpm. I had some time on my hands and since I did not put the splash shield back on yet I counted my alt rpm, it is 1.6RPM more than crank rpm so at idle 975-980 my alternator is spinning 1,560RPM
My stereo pulls 15A, PCM/ignition 7.5a, fuel pump 18a, hids while continuously on 4 ballasts 16a, a/c 21a for a total of 77.5amps at idle _________________ Need to buy Erebuni front bumper, Apexi avcr boost controller
