SOHC = Single Overhead Cam
DOHC = Dual Overhead Cam

If the motor has one cam/cam gear, it's a SOHC.
If the motor has two cams/cam gears, it's a DOHC.

PS: This is the wrong section.

how many cam gears it has on the passenger side...if it still has the plastic cover just pop it off and look...
1 gear =1 cam SOHC
2 gears = 2 cams DOHC

If the spark plugs wires go in between the two bumps then it is a DOHC. If the wires are towards the front of the valve cover then it is a SOHC.

This is from my 2nd Gen but the SOHC engines look the same

This is a SOHC engine.

Easy first one. The intake manifold is bare aluminum on the dohc. Black on the sohc. Most sohc had a plastic one, black, and smooth on the outside.

If it has the plastic air duct over the top of it, it will say on there.

The DOHC has a plain valve cover.

The SOHC one has 2.0 16 valve whatever cast into it.

Look at the top of the timing belt cover on the left side of the engine. If it has a plastic 'door' that is held on with a bolt, it's a dohc. If it has a round plastic plug at the top, it's a sohc.

I take offense at that :-)

I'm French and I speak fluently English and Italian and have a good command of Espanol.

Our Dutch friends are still mad because we bought KLM ;)
