Quick question, Mopar PCM

Post by wpgneon » Mon Oct 04, 2010 12:24 am

I'm working on a project 2.4 in my 96 sohc 2door.

Ordering a 96 dohc pcm off modern performance.

Question is i can still install this pcm with the Sohc engine.

the differences would be more or less " running the car more rich " timing.? nothing catalytic would happen to the engine correct?

Are you working on a 2.4L SOHC? Sorry I was confused lol

or

Are you buying the MP computer for a 2.4L DOHC and want to know if it will work in your 2.0L SOHC?

What they said. Not saying you would, but Don't rev your car to the rev limiter though (7,600rpm) lol

And I'm pretty sure you have to use a PCM for a 1996 model only, '95 will not fit and I don't think the 97-99 works. I may be wrong but I know for sure the '95 will not fit.

Yeah, the PCM for the 95's are Smaller and the 95 only has 1 plug connection on it, 96-99 have 2 plugs connecting to the PCM. I'm still pretty sure you have to get a PCM for a 1996 only.

For 95's and 96's you have to get their own PCM. A 97-99 ecu will run a 96, but the fans wont work correctly.

Why not? With my 98 stock I ran it to 7600 a bunch of times. Modded with the magnum head I ran it to 7600 ALL the time. It will not hurt anything. The only issue is with a stock head and cam you wont make much power above 6500.

Well, he didn't say he had a modded magnum head. And you just said yourself, no power after 6500. I have a DOHC (stock pcm)that makes no power after about 6700 so there's no point to rev that high.

After I do a full head build, and Mopar PCM and finish my exhaust, I should make power over 7k easy.

I was saying with my 98 stock, I ran it to 7600 a lot. It wasn't making big power after 6500 but I still shifted out of 1st at the track at 7K rpm's. When I ran my 20" slicks, I held 3rd all the way out instead of shifting to 4th, since the shift lost more time than the loss of power made. I was going through the traps around 7200. All with the stock head/cam. Only power mods were a 3.0 intake and an AFX long tube.

The way you had said it before made it seem like he was going to die if he took it to 7600, that's all, sorry for any confusion.

Nah, it shouldn't hurt it unless you just hold the throttle wide open at the limiter lol. I personally wouldn't rev over 7k on a stock neon. Not gonna lie, I've hit my limiter of 7,250rpm 2 or 3 times. But it's not worth it to rev that high unless you have the mods to put the power to it. I have a stock motor.
