Tough decision

Post by vielecustoms » Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:37 am

I was planning on getting my neon back together once I get taxes back BUT my Friend is selling a 91 Eclipse GSX (AWD Turbo) for $1400. The Eclipse has high mileage but he just had the engine rebuilt and a new turbo put on. (takes good care of his cars because parents have $$$) Leather seats, 5 spd. the car looks like it just rolled out of the show room. and the only problem I found so far is one of the hosed for the power steering leaks a lil bit. (he wants to sell it so he can put the money into his evo 8)

I like my neon but I am going to need a full exhaust, cat. converter, clutch, crank sensor and to pay my freind to get the electrical problem straightened out, so it'd end up costing about the same to get my stock 96 SOHC mtx 2dr with 200K miles back on the road.

sorry about my ramblings but what do you guys think, Eclipse GSX or Neon?

I love dsm's. I owned a 91 gsx. Car was a blast. It will respond well to mods better than your sohc.

Everyone will say theyr junk, but you said he replaced some stuff and its been well maintained.

Have you driven it? Must not have or there would be no doubt in your mind. lol

DSM's are fucking sweet.. I had a Talon TSI....The 1st gens are the way to go too! I agree with SIC a lot of people say they are junk. Thats because they beat the shit out of them and never do any sort of maintenance. Read up on them and be prepared to spend a little money to keep it in tip top shape. Maintenance is a BIG deal on those cars

Make sure the clutch is ok, and that the transfer case has good oil in it. I had one, sold it dirt cheap too, wish I still had it.

Buy the fucker, your friend is a sucker for selling it for that cheap. Who cares about mileage, you're going to drive it right? New motor and well taken care of = good vehicle. How many GSX's do you see everyday? Now how about Neons. Now if it was a Talon TSI, it would be even more rare. DSM's are like ordering at Taco Bell. Your food will be either be really good, or looks like it came out of the dumpster. Nothing in between. Just like the cars. You'll get one that falls apart and needs new door handles every two years, or one that will last forever on the original PCM ( which they are known for frying). Go with the Chrysler - Mitsubishi bastard!!

Ok.. here's the deal,

1) That is gonna have a 5bolt (far less likely to crank walk) since it is a 91'

that alone is work the money!

2) That car is fucking mint... by DSM standards

3) It's not modded

4) It's stick

5) chicks will actually look at you when you drive by

I have owned 3 Talon Tsi's 1st and 2nd Gen.
you wont find anything else that fast, for that cheap

but keep your beater neon, cause when the dsm breaks you will be like me, buying a neon anyways cause you can not afford to fix your dsm!

neons may break just as often, but parts are a fraction of the price
98' MTX Coupe.. w/ all the fixin's
07' Focus SES... $260 a month- 'nough said
94' Altima
92'/94'/95' Talon Tsi AWD's (RIP's)
