Neon Vs. VW Vento VR-6 (Jetta MK3)
A friend of mine has a VW Vento VR-6 (in America called a VW Jetta Mark 3)
This is a 6 cyl 2,8 L 12v
Vs.
4 cyl 2.0 SOHC 16v
They are about the same in acceleration, top speed should also be about the same, around 240 on the counter (if that is spelled correct)
Because he has a automatic gear box I win the first 300 meters by 3 car lengths.
Then when I drive about 180 km/h (about 115 MP/H) and have to shift from 4th gear to 5th gear he comes closer, closer, closer.... untill we reach about 220 km/h (135 mp/h) at this point the Vento is about 0,5 car lengths in front of me, so actually he's next to the side of me Neon.
I do not yet have a movie of this but will soon
also we do a lot more races, I do not have my Neon on a movie while racing, but I can show you what we do with our car club. I'll post this in another Streetracing topic.

not so much the 12 valve version. the 30 valve is much better but still easy enough to beat because VW's typically fall into the same weight category as a Sherman tank. i owned a 93 Passat VR6 and sure the ride was pretty comfortable but it had a hard time getting out of its own way.wickedgoodneon wrote:you should be happy that he is an ATX, those VR6's are mighty strong. gotta love them

My Neon is about the same as a GOLF VR-6 manual 5 speed (STOCK)
The only thing is, when I must shift to 5th gear, my RPM will go down as hell, so I don't have enough power to keep up with them above 180 km/h.
But from 0 km/h I will be in front untill I shift to 3th gear, from that point on the VR-6 will come closer and closer and finally when around 180 km/h he will pass me.
But I do keep sticking on his bumper, it's not that much faster.

yes because of the fact that the vr6 is a much bigger engine, you have a very potential car.
But you must tune it in order to go realy fast. Stock I think I pull them away a bit
It's always like, when we talk about it, he says: ''I'm faster than you are!!''
Then I always say...
Just too bad Volkswagen needs a 2,8 liter engine just to keep up with a 2 liter engine

The problem with the VR6 is the narrow angle of the V, the fact that it only has one head making the combustion happen mostly in the block dosent help either. My buddie had a MKIII 12v VR6 and he could not out run my 03 atx on the highway. Boosted the VR6 is bad ass but without cams headers and a P&P job they are slow

huh??? let me know is that is the case, then I will remove the rev limiter!!ubengineering wrote:95 acrs had no rev limiter, and if u cut one of the wires form the pcm the rev limiter is removed completely, (pics up soon)
Does that also mean I don't have to buy a Mopar PCM, or does it realy just mean the rev limiter is gone?
ThNX!

because I have a rev limiter, it kicks in at 6500RPM at the rev counter.

wait? mk3 jetta or golf, atx or mtx, and what are the mods on you 03 atx. I had and 01 and 04 atx and there was not way i was keeping up with a VR6Caustic wrote:The problem with the VR6 is the narrow angle of the V, the fact that it only has one head making the combustion happen mostly in the block dosent help either. A 12v VR6 has 172 hp and 173 ft lbs of torque
A golf GTI weighs about 2810 lbs. So thats about 16.3 lbs per HP
you neons has a rated 132 hp and 130 ft lbs of torque
and weighs about 2559 lbs. So thats about 19.4 lbs per hp
I'm not questioning what happened on the highway. But a MTX VR6 would absolutely leave your 03 atx behind.
