Post by 2.0Warrior » Sat Jul 07, 2007 10:08 pm

well i went to the local 1/8 mile airstrip flashlight drags they didn't time them but i figured maybe someone might be able to calculate my 1/8 mile time for me if i give my speed and gearing and what gear i was in. i was going about 87mph in third at 6500rpm with a 3.55 tranny(dohc motor)

the way i figure, is that you are in low 8s at that speed in a 1/8, probaly a low 13s or high 12 in a 1/4. good speed.
is that a neon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no way to figure it out for certain, only speculation. That's pretty cool they do that though.

Maybe you'd be better off listing your mods and people with similar setups can tell you what they run?

Well your speed in the 1/8 does seem like a low 13 run or so, but there's a good chance that the airport strip isn't exactly an 1/8.

With your mods though, I'm willing to bet on low-mid 14's for sure.

With no cams it's doubtful.

Says he's got "14's", I took it as Crane 14's since it's a DOHC. Now that I look back on the placement, it does seem like he means wheels, not cams.

no disrespct chipdog but i have read alot of your posts and you can keep your .02 to yourself it isn't needed here and no i don't have cams but i have raced and beaten a couple true type r integras by 2 car legths at the end of third gear when we let off not to mention i live in pittsburgh which i would have to guess is somewhat close to sea level... and the landing strip is actually a 1/4 mile long but they only setup an 1/8th mile run to be safe for the older cars without brake upgrades. oh and chip if you would have read the post correctly i had already told everyone it was only an 1/8 mile setup

Ok so you think you are trapping at 87 mph in the 1/8th mile on stock cams, street tires, N/A? 87 mph at 1/8th mile N/A is good for 12's. Hell Jeff Ball traps 87 in the 1/8th mile and hit 12.4, on slicks with a built 2.4. There is no way you are actually trapping 87 in the 1/8th mile n/a.

Why don't you try going to a real track and get some times? I'm guessing you might hit high 14's.

And about my car being slow, yeah it is. Oh well, making my DD fast is not my main priority right now, I just need it to run. I have 2 other projects I'm working on that are way more pressing than my DD Neon. Don't worry though, I got a collection of parts piling up in the garage that should put me into the 13's N/A this fall or more likely next spring.

I may be an ass but I know what I'm doing and know what my car runs (low 16's, maybe high 15's but we'll see Saturday)

I agree. You'd have to be at least 230+WHP and that's not going to happen all-motor with stock cams.

Agreed. Again. 2.0 would have to be really healthy or the car would have to be really light to go 87 in the 1/8th. Like, no dash, zero interior, sheetmetal cut out all over the place. Even then I don't know.
You know me
