Front Left speaker doesn't work

Post by jory543 » Fri Dec 07, 2007 8:30 pm

Since I first got my neon the front left speaker on the driver's door hasn't worked. I replaced all 4 speakers and the stereo and it still doesn't work. Is this a common problem? Where should I start looking?

Its common when you push the speaker back in the door, the terminals touch the panel of the door on tha back, causing them to short out. That or you have a wiring gremlin.

WORST case scenario, your head unit lost a channel....

mine cuts in and out because of a broken wire, the only way to fix that is to run a new wire. but if you are upgradeing to better equipment you'd probally want to do that anyways.

why is that the only way to fix it? you could crimp it or solder it.. where was the wire broken at?

My problem is finding the broken wire. The connections are good at the stereo and the speaker, so it's somewhere in between. I was wondering if it was common so I wouldn't have to search as much. Once I do find it I'll splice them together.

Well I just fixed mine tonight by running new speaker wire. I pulled off the door panel and fed the new wire through the rubber bellows on the door, then took out the old speaker wire and removed the white connector that goes inside the car. That was useless now since there was only the speaker wires going to it, no PL or PW. And I just ran it directly to the radio connector and zip tied it out of the way. The stereo sounds great now, there is good front/rear balance. I should have done it sooner, much sooner! The 100w Pioneers in the dors with the 220w Sonys in the back work awesome with the Chrysler cd player, and it looks stock so nobody is going to steal it.

when i put new speakers in i had the same problem with the dirvers door speaker working intermittently...a little troubleshooting i found that the wire had a cut in it where it passes throught the bellows thing...cut, crimp, problem is gone .
